Not sure how we and the FA in particular, have arrived at a position where there is no one who is English who is thought to be capable of managing the national team at our national sport. I can't see Spain, Italy, France or Germany going down the same route any time soon. We seem to be stuck in a cycle of repeating the same mistakes over and over again.
Nail on the head. The most succesfull England managers were English, the worst England managers were both foreign. How on earth have the FA bigwigs sat round a table and come to the conclusion going foreign again would be a good idea?

The real issue here is the FA are clueless

I've no doubt this has been covered already:

Bayern Munich won the title 11 times in a row, Thomas came in, and they finished 3rd, 18 points off the pace.

WTF?

EDIT - here we are
Couldn’t win the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich. The first Bayern manager to do this in 11 seasons.

Thank you (PS, first in 12 seasons)

Surely we should be looking at the best English manager who the FA can recruit.

I don't go with that. Wiegman has been brilliant for our women's team.

If we had appointed Pep or Klopp I'd be dancing 'round the kitchen right now. But I'm not happy with the appointment of Tuchel.

The FA could have appointed Tomasz Schafernaker, so long as they didn't appoint Potter.

Best: Sir Alf.

Worst: Schteeve? Revie? Old grand dad?

Who were those worst foring managers? Sven was decent. The miserable Italian was decent.

The reason why we shouldn't have a foreign manager isn't because foreign managers are no good. It's because they are foreign. That is sufficient reason.

However, Tommy Tootle is the best available manager, so until there are better English managers available, I'm not going to shit my bed.

Ok, we covered this previously during the Euros. That's simply not true.

With regards to win percentages excluding caretaker managers like Carsley or single game managers like Allardyce, the top 6 are as follows.

Capello 66.7% (28 wins in 42 games)
Southgate 62.7% (64 wins in 102 games)
Ramsey 61.1% (69 wins in 113 games)
Hoddle 60.7% (17 wins in 28 games)
Greenwood 60.0% (33 wins in 55 games)
Eriksson 59.7% (40 wins in 67 games)

With the 2 previous foreign managers in 1st and 6th, you might have to do a bit more convincing here with an argument based on nationality alone.

The FA bigwigs first remit, is to stay in power and feather their nests.

Came down to a Punt on either Tuchel or Carlsey as best option to continue with their fat salaries and maintaining status quo.
