Is definitely the case that the use of VAR is much more lowkey this season. Begs the question though about where we are going to end up.This is utter nonsense.
1) Of course an offside call is black and white. You are either offside or you're not, there is no half-offside. You can argue that the law is confusing but that is the fault of the law, not VAR. Just define it more reasonably.
2) And the technology does support the required level of precision but where it can't make the call for whatever reason, then stand with the referee's original view.
3) Marginal calls didn't just start with the invention of VAR. Have you forgotten all those close calls that were wrongly flagged offside that might have ended up in a goal scored? They used to happen nearly every game. And those goals that were marginally offside but play was wrongly allowed to continue leading to goals? They happened less often, but it's still an injustice that we were forced to accept.
4) Whining about undermining spontaneous celebrations is absolutely pitiful if the right decision can be reached quickly and easily. The clowns in Buckinghamshire seemed to make hard work of that, but this season definitely not so much.
You're completely wrong. It won't be going anywhere any time soon as long as adjustments and the necessary improvements continue to be made to the process.
I had zero doubts about any of our goals on Sunday, so clearly this isn't true. What is painful is never being quite sure again that a goal is a goal, thanks to VAR. That really is an attack on football's soul.
I’d agree that "Football is panto. It's intrinsically silly" if I was smoking some weed or doing acid. Everything used to seem, hey, kinda intrinsically absurd, when I was out of my head. Which, funnily enough, was also around 40 years ago. But no, when I have my normal straight head on, I think it’s a fookin' sad day for sport when people get away with such high profile cheating. Maybe you need to have played sport seriously yourself at some point in your life to feel aggrieved. Or maybe you need to have kids, and be aware of the impact of this stuff. Whatever. But it seemed wrong back then, and it seems just as wrong now. We disagree.Surely, you must be able to look back at the hand of god nearly FOURTY years later and realise it's just a mad moment and has to be embraced for that. You can't be re-watching that now and get annoyed about it?

My thoughts exactly.VAR is terrible, and its a shit song.
I think that about covers it.

So if Newcastle or the ball in the net against us and on MOTD next week they're saying "it's a clear handball, I don't know how the ref's missed it", which is your preferred outcome:All part of the glorious game's heritage. Maradona's cheating was cheating, but outrageous and audacious at the same time.

3) There is no VAR and the goal happensSo if Newcastle or the ball in the net against us and on MOTD next week they're saying "it's a clear handball, I don't know how the ref's missed it", which is your preferred outcome:
1) VAR intervenes and disallows the goal, or
2) VAR by some means fails and the goal is given?
Do you consider Palace's goal against us, where VAR should have intervened but was incorrectly used, to be part of the fun of the game?
I have kids. I would say having something you care about more than anything in the world helps put sport in it's rightful context. It's SO SO low down on life priorities that it seems mad to me that people are letting it affect them so much and can't let it go. Especially a goal from nearly 4 decades ago.I’d agree that "Football is panto. It's intrinsically silly" if I was smoking some weed or doing acid. That's the point, though. No VAR intervention in a memorable comeback victory. All good.I had zero doubts about any of our goals on Sunday, so clearly this isn't true.
What about the fact they ruled out a Tottenham goal for offside? I certainly cheered that one. That's the point, though. No VAR intervention in a memorable comeback victory. All good.
The less VAR is used the better it is, it seems. So the best could be to simply not use it at all.
Unlike now when no one is moaning about the ref...What about the fact they ruled out a Tottenham goal for offside? I certainly cheered that one.
No doubt if they got rid of VAR you'd be moaning about incorrect decisions from the first game.
You’ll be waiting a long time for perfect officialdom That’s why I prefer pre VAR.No thanks. It's populist shit. VAR is perfectly reasonable if it's implemented properly. Binning it off completely because the implementers are complete clowns is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. It is amazing how people have forgotten about all those incorrect, goal-defining offside decisions that happened in every single game back in the day.
Just implement it so that it eliminates the shocking decisions very quickly along with offside/goal-line decisions (which really are black and white) and VAR would be perfectly OK.
Sick of VAR ruining the game, we made a song: Reclaim the game....from VAR
Please give it a listen. Best played loud.
If you like it, please share far and wide.
That will be completed at some pointed!!The way it fades out in the middle of the 9th verse really is the cherry on the top for me.
The offside was called by the linesman!!What about the fact they ruled out a Tottenham goal for offside? I certainly cheered that one.

I've never understood this argument. I have never seen anyone mute their celebrations just in case. Look at how many goals were celebrated by Chelsea fans before the linesman put his flag up, not VAR. I think i've even celebrated more as ive celebrated, then VAR checks, then celebrate again when given.Maybe combine the two.

Yep. We go to football, sometimes 90 minutes of NOTHINGNESS, in anticipation of maybe that ONE moment of spontaneous elation......and now we need to wait for it to be ratified.Spontaneous joy is better than delayed, the moment is gone and VAR murdered the no.1 reason we go.
