[Albion] Surely we must have some decent free kick takers in this squad?

Watkins was saying how good Dunk is at free kicks in training so maybe one will go in one day!
Seen videos of him knuckleballing them into the top corner in training. Frustrating he's never managed to do it properly in a game.

Anyone who thought this experiment was finally over had an unexpected treat today!

Direct freekicks are very, very rarely scored in the Premier League these days.

Only 11 direct freekicks were scored in the Premier League in TOTAL last season, an all-time low. That's down from 18 in the previous season.

If Dunk is the best we have in training, so be it, let him have a pop... whoever else takes it is equally unlikely to score, statistically.

Then we should play it wide and get the cross straight in.... to Muric's hands...oh🤦🏼‍♂️

It would help if he didn’t smash it straight at the wall though - free kicks have a much better chance of going in if they actually go over the wall if that was the intention.

Mackie’s amazing free kick against Leicester

Can't get my head around professional footballers not being able to consistently strike a dead ball. Funny old game.

Comes to something when I don't even want a free kick given to us in a dangerous position because it wastes about 3 minutes a time and you know the bloody outcome!

Imagine every club is bemoaning the same thing.

In the Premier League 23/24 season:

- 283 direct freekicks were taken, with 11 being scored. That's nearly 1 in 22 freekicks, or 4.6%

- Out of those 11 scored, 3 were scored by City

- Which means 12 other clubs, including Brighton, did not score a direct freekick last season

I think it's one of those things... everyone has fond memories of stunning direct freekicks being scored, but in reality it just isn't a dangerous attacking position anymore, as the game has evolved a lot since.

Ipswich would’ve been delighted every time we won a corner or free-kick.

Killed our open play momentum, 11 defenders, static football, zzzz Albion players in whispering conferences eating up precious time, jostling in the box to wind up our players.

We very rarely try anything different from a free kick , such as play it down the side of the wall to cross into a crowded box. We always blast it into the wall or over. I thought we had a new man working on our dead ball situations ?

Our short corner in the second half was a thing of comedy.
