We have a bloody good side forming. We have brought well. I wonder what RDZ is thinking. Last summer bar Pedro he got bunch of freebies/loans. Nothing in Jan. Always the plan the spend once RDZ left...?
Who cares what he’s thinking he got sacked. Although technically we did spend money on Igor & Bart, Barco in Jan.
Personally think it was a PSR waiting game and TB pounces of course at exactly the right time.

Meeting the release clause valuation is one thing.

Any reliable news that Rutter wants to join us?
Clubs talk to players/representatives way before even considering bidding otherwise it just makes you look silly if the player rejects you. Yes, it does happen but I'd be staggered if, as the only club involved, having bid 3 times, we hadn't been given very strong assurances that the player wanted to join.

Sure, it means every transfer technically involves "tapping up" but that's just how it is now.

Us or nowhere basically. Activating the release clause just before it expired was yet another masterstroke  Being reported widely that Rutter has ‘verbally agreed to join with immediate effect’.

Not just Joao Pedro - we spent £100m in transfer fees last summer in addition to two expensive free transfers and a ridiculously expensive loan he pushed for. He was backed.
He was backed in the summer but not in January. There are reasons of course. It was a nothing sort of window for a lot of clubs and we'll tend to use January for one big signing or ones for the future to go on loan or join in the summer. We also no doubt had in mind that we'd probably have a PSR advantage this summer and needed to know the extent of it. Plus some players wouldn't have been available (Minteh for example).

However, knowing we had one winger out for the season and two away at Asia Cup / Afcon I found our lack of getting at least a loan in that position staggering. Everyone knew we played with wingers and we had none fit or in the country.

Very high level of progressive passes and progressive carries. Just what we need.

I think Kadioglu is now going nowhere. Surely we can’t spend another £35m?
I now get the feel that this was being spun out on social media/ press to attract a bigger bid from Man U / Arsenal. I know he’s a full back and Rutter a number 8, but I think Hinshelwood can play the Right wing back role.
Has Ferdi been reported by Pletti/Fab/Ornstein? Or was it just the Turkish media? You could be right.

I wasn’t surprised at all…..….simply prepared to have a ‘down’ half-season knowing it could all be fixed - big time - in the summer. Short term pain, long term gain and no deflection from long term strategy.

My view is that we struggled last season with just having Ferguson, Welbeck and Pedro as our strikers - O Mahony and Duffus got some minutes at some point - and then of course they were injured leaving us with little choice and depth. Pedro and Rutter are flexible and can play anywhere along the front line and as no.10s to Ferguson and Welbeck. So i'd be surprised if any of that four exited. And it looks like Hurzeler will play a front two.
PS: Ferguson is back in training.
Kinda agree with all of this. Ferguson is, despite his amazing season before the last one, is still a bit of an unknown quantity (not least with his recent injuries) and Welbz isn't getting any younger.

There doesn't HAVE to be anyone leaving - it could just be some decent planning for the future. That - and the chance for Tone to grab a bargain (to possibly be player sold to Chelsea for £500m :lolol:

That 'down half season' included the knock out stages of our first Europa League. I find it staggering that we thought what we had was adequate (notwithstanding that we all know RDZ got the tactics wrong in Rome). I don't think a loan would exactly have broken the bank.

That's not to say long term isn't the right strategy as we're currently doing bits in a window the big boys are struggling with. But to not even attempt a sticking plaster?

Also, without wishing to de-rail the thread, wasn't it down to RDZ himself (not just not being backed) that Dewsbury-Hall wasn't SINGED in January? So said @Bozza

I rate Ferguson and would be sad to see him leave but I don't think we'd struggle without him. Pedro on the other hand is a huge player for us, he'd cost us 60 plus million in today's market.
Controversial opinion here BUT. Pedro hasnt quite hit the heights for me. Take away the pens last season and how many goals and assists did he have.

What happens to the release clause if he decides to stay at Leeds? Does it get put back in, or is he then back on the free market, so to speak?

It's a bit weird - to me, at least - that the club decides the fee it is happy to sell at, but the player decides if he wants to go

Funnily enough, we were one of the biggest spenders in the January transfer window (Barco and Mazilu), plus a few promising youngsters - hardly anyone bought anyone. And we almost got KDH (which would have been north of £30m), but apparently RDZ didn't want him (??)

Agreed . although of course there will be plenty of other exits / loans elsewhere in the squad. Its a big squad as Hurzeler said today.

On the basis it’s expired, I would guess he’s now ‘open market’ in terms of price but quite possible there is a clause that prevents Leeds selling him to anyone else in any window in which the clause is activated ?
