Go to a club called Prozak. Barrett pulled a WELL fit Brazilian bird in there and there is a room downstairs towards the back that was playing some PROPER techno.

The Jewish ghetto is worth a wander round and the views from the Wawel Castle are worth seeing. To be honest, Krakow is mint just for sitting around the main square having a beer.

What Chappers said - the area around the main square is great and the old Jewish area (where my gran was born) is definitely worth a visit.

Yup, I was going to say that with only a night there you really don't need to worry about finding anything to do other than siting ut on the main square with a glass of Zywiec - a beautiful place. The church in one corner of the square is very nice and worth a climb if it's open when you're there. Better views than Wawel castle and a nice atmospheric building.

Went their on my stag do a couple of years ago and was well impressed

Make sure you are clear in telling taxi drivers where you want to go. We asked for a lap dancing club and ended up at a Brothel miles from anywhere.

If that happens, it's always important to stop the more "special" members of your group re-arranging the furniture in said cat house.

As already said area around the main market square is very good. Look out for some bloke playing a trumpet from the top of a tower, warning of invasion or something.

You lucky git, Krakow is superb!

Hit the Main Market square of an eve. There are bars all the way around, also a number of cellar bars, which are well worth a visit. Most stay open until at least 2am or when the last punters have left.

Having drank untold beer and tatanka's (pure polish potato vodka soaked in Bison-grass, with a small amount of apple juice) I can't remember all their names, but I think our favourite was Square Pub (?) it’s in the Main Market Square and they have this inter-linking cellar thing going on and has all the feelings of a dungeon!

Also, you’re only an hour away from Auschwitz. They have full and half day excursions and whilst this doesn't sound like a particularly cheery day out it is immense and something you won't EVER forget. Iconic buildings and rail lines still exist and there is a real eerie and powerful feel to the place.

Another daytime must is the Salt mines (about a 15 minute taxi journey) – although I am told they do a night tour, which would be awesome (might get in the way of valuable drinking time).

Krakow is a top City Break!
To add to comments above. If you go over the wisla river you will find Oscar Schindlar's factory. It's going to be renovated. At the moment you can go in the front part only but you will recognise the stairs from the film.
Try to stay as near as possible to the main square.
Beautiful City. Beautiful women

I went to Krakow with Riviera Travel in 2006. The trip included a tour of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Albion had just been relegated. The visit to Auschwitz helped with the healing process.

I was in Krakow two weeks ago and it was great... although I didnt see much because I was working. Stayed in what is called 'a boutique hotel'... superb!!!

Love Krakow although the new shopping centre right by the railway station has taken away a bit of the soul of the place I think. Quite a lot of builidng work on the bazaar right now.

you lucky so and so. I was there in 95 and i hope it's as uninfected by tourists or Brits abroad as it was then. Go easy with the ale, it can catch you unawares if you're used to Fosters. The food is great and the locals are wonderful people. Remember to post here and tell us what you got upto.

Dandyman... you a bit of an expert in Poland ... my students insist that in the seventeenth century, before the Partitions, Poland became a vassal of Turkey and the Ottoman Empire actuyally had the right to choose a king. I have never come across this in either history. Is there any truth to it?

So, in an ironic twist of fate, his last word on this earth was "Ta-tar"...

They are probably refering to the Polish -Ottoman war of the 1670's . The Ottomans initially defeated the Polish and by the terms of the peace treaty Poland had to pay an annual tribute.

The Polish Sejm (a parliament) refused to ratify the treaty because among other reasons it could be seen as reducing Poland (actually the Polish -Lithuanian Commonwealth) to an Ottoman vassal. The Poles returned to war with the Ottomans and although there was no decisive out come when peace came most of the terms of the original peace treaty were reversed. Poland never paid the tribute, so could never be considered a vassal, and the Ottomans never had rights over the succession.
