We can predict and watch the results of teams we think we’ll be around us come end of the season, but there’s always surprises. I can imagine us needing Fulham to lose but Newcastle/Forest many points behind us after falling off a cliff.

If we’ve got 60 points before Liverpool/Spurs I think that’ll be enough for Europe. Until we win the FA Cup or course.

Average points needed for 6th place in Premier League in last five years = 60 points
Average points needed for 7th place in Premier League in last five years = 58 points

17 points needed from 11 games = 1.54 points a game
Currently progressing at 1.59 points a game.

Agreed.

This is why I find it pretty amusing that Palace fans keep banging on about their push for Europe.
It isn't just about getting the points. It's overtaking all the other teams in your way.
The Nigels are heavily reliant on Mateta for goals, and I assume he won't be back for a while after that shocking kick in the head he received.

Tighter than a Yorkshireman's wallet.

If it's a concussion, the protocol is 7-10 days off.

My default position for Manchester United is for them to lose in the Europa League (and in fact any league).
However, can it help us in anyway if Man Utd or Spurs were to win the Europa League?

The better the English teams do the higher the England coefficient is and the more likely it is that the Premier League gets 5 CL spots, which in turn pushes EL and ECL down a place in the table. Probably don’t need them to win it to achieve that. Winning it will get a CL spot for next season which doesn’t effect anything else for us (it might if they were above us in the league).

So losing finalists is about what we want.

The Lugano v Celje game in the Conference League has been a bit special.

Currently 5-4 on the night with 2 goals in extra time and 5-5 on aggregate.

Presumably losing to someone like Lyon in the final would be the best outcome for either Man Utd or Spurs from our perspective?

Countries win 2 coefficient points each time one of their sides wins a game, gets 1 point each time a club draws a game and gets no points for a loss.

It doesn't matter which competition the fixture is in, ie Chelsea get 2 points for winning in the Conference League, as do Arsenal for winning in the Champions League.

Only Spain and Italy can overhaul England now. Germany, currently in fourth, can get into second, but they can't overtake England, currently first.

Both of our remaining Champions League sides have tough ties next, so Man Utd, Spurs and Chelsea winning games to ensure the Premier League gets the extra spot is probably what we want.

And a sending off!
Thoughts with Lugano supporters tonight.

They score 5 at home, play all of extra time with 10 men and go out on pens.

According to a post by Football Rankings on X earlier this evening the following means a 5th CL slot is guaranteed if -

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England will mathematically secure an extra Champions League spot if these two occur:

✅ Just one draw for their clubs tonight!
✅Fiorentina eliminated by Panathiniakos!

FC Köbenhavn fans singing "Is this a library?" and "You're shit and you know you are" at the Bridge tonight is possibly the only time in the last five years I've found either of those songs amusing.

Obviously the Boehly All Stars are still winning, as they very well should with their £1.6 billion squad, but we may at least enjoy somebody taking the piss out of them in the meantime.
