and then there were three....

'Tom the Terrible' Tugendhat knocked out of the Tory leadership contest. Leaving Kemi Badenoch, Bobby Jenrick and James Cleverly to battle it out.

Holy Jesus.

It’s like choosing between a shit sandwich, a shit pizza and a shit doughnut.

Hmmmm I agree sadly. I cannot possibly see whoever wins still being there for the next election. Hopefully there is someone in the background who can excel in opposition and bring them together.

According to 120 Conservative MPs, Kemi Badenoch (42) or Robert Jenrick (41) is apparently the answer, rather than James Cleverly (37), although I am not exactly clear as to what the question was.
Pretty extraordinary. Two awful candidates. If I were Labour I'd be puffing on my cigar and looking forward to two terms at least.

Have you any idea who you're going to vote for this time ? IIRC you weren't too impressed with the final choice of Truss or Sunak last time.

Don't underestimate the stupidity of the electorate. These two are right-wing loonies whose policies are the sort that have wrecked the country, yet there will a large rump blaming immigrants and overlooking the value of the ECHR (which they want to leave) or the value of an independent, tax funded BBC.

Jesus - what an absolute mess.

I've read a suggestion that some MPs thought Cleverly was through so voted for their preferred second candidate or, perhaps, the one they thought Cleverly could beat in the final run-off, and it's backfired.

I'm not sure what I think of Cleverly in absolute terms, but he'd be a lot better than the pair of utter ****s left.

That wasn't exactly a tricky choice for me in the end.

This one is a bit more of a challenge... but I am inclined to see it as a vote for a Leader of the Opposition who can keep the government's feet to the fire rather than a potential future Prime Minister.

If you wanted to vote for a future Prime Minister, you wouldn't be able to vote.

Badenoch could be mad/bad/awful enough to be Lettuce Mk 2, thankfully this time without any actual power. And Jenrick is just your standard issue Tory weirdo posh boy dimwit, pretending to be the kind of bigoted Combat 18 smeggy skinhead whom Chelsea have always attracted in large numbers.

So: well played and thank you, Tory MPs. Us centre lefties are most grateful.

Blimey Cleverly ain't great but easily the best on offer. Honest Bob or Bad-Enoch, typhoid or cholera injection is your choice?

I feel a bit sorry for the centre-right like yourself. You're basically politically homeless for now, much as the centre-left had been for a decade or more when Labour had Milliband and then (much) worse, Corbyn, and the Lib-Dems were as weak as they've ever been.

Is that their IQ being quoted?
