Your starting 11 for Derby?

I think we're all worried by Derby's form last year. We are lucky to play then now while they have a new manager. If we start well they are likely to worry. We shoud start with CKR & Knight up front who seem to be the best things about pre-season (along with Hammond). I would go with

Keeper

Reid, El-Abd, Dodd, Butters, Mayo,

Oatway, Hammond, Chippy

CKR, Knight

GK BLAYNEY
RB REID
LB MAYO
CB DODD
CB BUTTERS
RM KNIGHT
LM HAMMOND
CM CARPENTER
CM NICOLAS
CF KAZIM RICHARDS
CF TURENZO

NOT SURE ON SUBS WITH CHOICE OF
MCCAMMON (THINK IS WEAK MINDED AS SOMEONE HIS SIZE SHOULD WIN A LOT OF BALL)
ROBINSON (PLENTY OF POTENTIAL)
MCPHEE (NOT GOING TO MAKE IT)
JARRETT (GOT SKILL BUT NOT FINISHING TOUCH BUT ID LIKE TO SEE GIVEN CHANCE THIS SEASON)
OATWAY (PAST IT I THINK GOOD LEADER BUT SLOW ON BALL AND LOOKED POOR VS LEWES)
EL ABD (IS HE GOING TO BREAK INTO 1ST TEAM ?)
BUT TWO YOUNG GKS IN SULLIVAN AND MARTIN, WHICH ONE IS IT LIVERPOOL WAS INTERESTED IN, THINK ITS SULLIVAN, WAS IN NATIONAL NEWSPAPERS LAST YEAR.
I DO THINK KUIPERS WHEN FIT IS OUR NUMBER ONE NO DOUBT AND HINSHELWOOD.
WHAT ABOUT YOUNGSTERS
WHO IS THIS ASHBY ?
COX (SMALL BUT QUITE SKILFUL, HE ANNOYED HARVEY VS LEWES WAS FUNNY
ELPHICK AND BREACH WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THESE LADS ?

The only problem with that is that its asking Derby to attack attack attack which is asking for trouble.

Incorrect - you invite teams on to you if you leave them space to exploit, this formation doesn't do that. And you underestimate how well Reid, Hammond and Oatway can support the lone striker, which was the big lesson of yesterday.

I think the realistic choice is between the formation I suggested and the 4-4-2 that Dwayne and a few others are suggesting. The 4-5-1 I think could have more chance of frustrating Derby. It is worth recalling that we started with this system at Reading last year. It is a system to use when bedding down new players in the team because of the extra defensive safety net is gives you.

the defensive MUST have more pace in it than Dodd, Butters, Ashby, Mayo would offer.

I hope we sign at least a CB with pace but hopefull a LB too before Saturday.

Id also like to see Hammond given a starting role in CM.

GK: Blayney/loan keeper/Martin if worst comes to worst

DR: Dodd
DL: Mayo
DC: Butters
DC: Ashby/some other signing/El-Abd if no-one signed

MR: Reid
ML: Hammond
MC: Carpenter
MC: Oatway

SC: Knight
SC: Kazim-Richards

Subs:

Martin/Sullivan depending on whether we've signed a keeper
El-Abd if we've signed a defender, if not then Breach or Elphick I guess
Nicolas
Hart
Turienzo/Robinson

There are still a few too many question marks over the team for my liking, most importantly the goalkeeping and centre-back situations. Reid and Dodd seemed to link up well at Bournemouth by all accounts, and playing Hammond on the left is the best way to fit him in and he will probably cut in off that flank quite a lot.

I cannot believe that Turkey thinks we should start with McCammon ahead of Knight...

It would be good to see Leon up front with Kazim. I've got a feeling McCammon may start, to push back the defence and allow Richards room.

I put down what I think may happen, not what I think should happen..

I think McCammmon should be center back, tall, quick, strong.. :lolol: :jester:
