I need some help.

I'm going to a company christmas dinner tomorrow.

One of the choices as a main course is:

Churrasco, fried cassava, Manchego cheese and molho campanha.

I have absolutely no clue as to what the f*** they're talking about - can anyone help me?

Turkey isn't even on the menu :shootself

Other items on the menu include something with Truffle Oil, another thing with Cuitacoche sauce, and for Dessert I can have Chilean apple and pecan nut budin or Brazil nut cake, doce de leite and chocolate ganache. Where's the christmas pud? :(

Office receptionist

Very pleasant but a bit posh.

The vegetarian choice is a spinach ricotta and sultana EMPANADA.

A what?

:lolol: You'd be happy with fish and chips and a pint wouldn't you? And I've got no idea what either of those dishes are either.

What it means is that you will get a plate of food that you will not be sure if you should eat it, look at it or frame it on the wall. Big plates with little food but large prices.

I've just been to dictionary.com

Can't find Churrasco but maybe they mean a Churro which is a "thick coiled fritter of fried dough"

Under cassava: The root of this plant, eaten as a staple food in the tropics only after leaching and drying to remove cyanide

I donlt think I'll look for the rest of the dish... :(

An Empanada is some sort of pastry parcel. Sort of like a Cornish Pasty in appearance, of Spanish origin, they were everywhere in Lima.

You poor sod. Cassava is sometimes called manioc or mogo - it tastes like blotting paper, you'd be better off eating the napkins.

I've no idea what molho campanha is but, at a guess, molho is a sauce (I guess it's a Portuguese version of 'mole') and campanha could be country, but who knows what country sauce could be.

A churro is normally eaten for breakfast with chocolate - never seen it as a starter before.

Manchego cheese is the bollocks though, particularly if it's a mature one.

It's a weird menu - looks like a cross between Latin-American, Spanish and Portuguese; where are you going?

Churrasco is a Brazilian barbecue, grilled meat on spits, sausages, that sort of thing. Lovely stuff but rather bemused as to how it fits in with the spirit of Christmas?

Cassava is like a potato. It's the roots that you'll be eating. Grated and fried up with oil. Served as a kind of side dish.

I think your receptionist has been on holiday to South America recently. She's been off to Brazil or Peru, had a bit of the food and thought "they'll love this back home!"

So she's booked up all this South American stuff and you know that she'll be going on about "now we had this in a wonderful little place in Cuzco" whilst your sitting there thinking "where's the gravy?"
