if he did go now it would be the best time in terms of finding a suitable replacement with Di Canio and Adkins both out of a job. Really hope Poyet wouldn't go though as it is his team and system that finds us in the play-offs and is integral to our growing reputation and success as a club.

If Gus went and we got Di Canio I might follow Gus!

Gus would absolutely jump at it - There is no loyalty at all these days from boot room to boardroom, money talks and whilst nice to think some people still like Matt Le Tiss, they just don't exist anymore in football - RDM took the job when unsuited and it showed with that squad guaranteed a degree of reasonable success instantly and with a bit of luck, great success. If it failed, well he's got Chelsea on CV (and that would open a few doors) and a payoff that softens a period unemployed......

I heartily concur. I don't think Mr Bloom would consider Di Canio for a minute.... or at least I hope not as well.

And yes Gus would go if he was offered the job on the right conditions, and I wouldn't blame him if he did.

But he won't be offered it and, even if it is offered and he does go, the club is canny enough to find a sensible replacement, who could well be someone nobody up to now has mentioned in this respect.

Que sera sera.

He was a caretaker that Abramovich had to give the job to after he won the champions league. He got rid as quick as he could.

If you want we can include his 3rd place in league 1 with MK Dons
His promotion from championship with West Brom
His Premier League experience
And winning Premier league Manager of the month for Sept 2010.

The Chelsea job would be attractive to Gus but we all know what a poisoined chalice it would be. Imagine having to work under the current restraints i.e.
1) Unstable, immature, short-sighted and autocratic owner who has made a series of managerial decisions that have undermined any stability at the club. Who clearly has a major say in team affairs. ( e.g the perseverance with a hopelessly out of salts Torres, to the detriment of the team. Then, in a vain bid to justify one of the worse bits of transfer business in history, appointing an ' interim manager ', detested by fans, with the sole purpose of trying to regain the form of this player )
2) Omnipotent club captain who clearly dominates the dressing room and calls the shots. Has an insidious influence at club and country level.
3) Fans who, in pretty equal measure, are frustrated, angry and impatient. A lot of them would not be appeased with a relative novice e.g Poyet, Zola or both together.
If you can win the Champions League ( which was the owner's dream ) FA Cup and be very popular with the fans and yet still be sacked, then there ain't much hope for anyone like Gus, who is still cutting his teeth, still maturing at a lower level, still making mistakes at a lower level and still learning how to be bold at the right times.
IMHO Gus is at least two seasons short of Premiership management with a ' lesser ' club before any consideration could be given to one of the bigger jobs. If Zola gets Watford up automatically this season, then I would suggest that he is already ahead of Gus in the pecking order. Both these two are still well below the stature of someone like Moyes, in the running for a ' top four ' job.

Absolutely agree with this.

But nothing we have to worry about right now, Gus will be well down the list of potential Rafa replacements.

Simple answer is yes.

But Chelski won't employ him now.

Oh and to those saying they won't employ him as he has only won a L1 trophy, Di Matteo hadn't won anything when he was put in charge - he was only an assistant !!!

Don't think it's that crazy from OP. Even that dimwit at Chelsea must realise what a monumental f*** up he has made with managers over last few years and will be looking for a popular choice now. Gus' name has been branded around a bit as a potential choice from a few high profile names.

Saying all that I think it's highly, highly unlikely. But if an approach was made some point in the next 6 months, anyone who doesn't think gus would jump at the chance is kidding themselves.

Why is it a stupid question...I agree he doesn't have the cv and I agree he would f*** it up. Never the less he is 7/1 with the bookies and many Chelsea old guard are touting for him..So its not a stupid question at all...Carry on.

I'm sorry, but it is a very stupid question.

There is no way that Abramovitch would offer the Chelsea job to Poyet at the present time. The bookies know f-all. It makes not one iota of difference to the owner who the old guard are or are not touting for.
