Watching the Fed steam over a hapless Frenchman last night I was still struck by how long the rallies are now in general. The serve/volley game seems to have totally disappeared , compared to what I saw in the 1970's and 1980's. Rallies then would often only last 3 shots, if that.
The ball has apparently been made heavier to slow up the speed, but also the grass has been changed too. But service speeds still seem high.
Interesting though to wonder how a guy like Clark Graebner who used to virtually rely on his service and then another Yank in the 1980's - who was it? Roscoe Tanner but there was another one - would cope now.
