David Davis..south London grammar school boy, with that background never going to make it as a Tory or probably Lib/Dem.

Could not care less about an individual's class background. If they are honest, intelligent, sensible, and straightforward then I couldn't give a toss whether they're working, middle, or upper class. It's irrelevant.

One of the few politicians people like and trust. Think he'd make a great Prime Minister one day. Even with the baseball cap.

What, doing a similar job to the one he did when he led the Tories?

Btw, what was all that "Change" nonsense that Diddy Dave was coming out with prior to the GE? If he-who-will-be-Cheesmaker Clegg provides 'em a working majority, the likes of Hague, Howard & IBS will all be given jobs in the Cabinet. No prizes for guessing what they all have in common.

Class may be irrelevant to you but not to many in the Tory party. Out in the shires Tory "Gentlemen and Ladies" do not wish to associate with Grammar or Comprehensive types. That is why Davis failed in his Leadership contest with Public School boy Cameron.
In the Lib Dem camp there are many on the left of the party who want nothing to do with non comprehensive educated.

Howard won't. He's no longer an MP (and he's not become a peer either).

Couldn't resist poppin' up this pic of the dashing Billy Boy in his full-on, Log Flume-ridin' pomp. It looks like he's already demolished his daily 14 pints to boot. What a guy! :clap2:

William Hague is a total legend. Running the Tories in the same way as the dark lord is doing for Labour. Inspired stuff.

He was always going to be on a hiding to nothing being leader of the Tory party after they had lost the 1997 election so heavily. The job was a poisoned chalice. Bliar was still highly popular and the economy was strong (worthing noting here that it was Labour who inherited an already decent economy from the Tories).

Labour have always made a grand job of destroying our economy and it will be the Tories (again) who will eventually have to come in and fix the mess they've made.

That wasn't the reason.

Cameron's speech at the Tory party conference in 2005 won him the party leadership and convinced the backbenchers and grassroots members to vote him leader.

I'm no economist, but to be fair all parties who govern seem to fall fowl of inevitable economic downturns. They may have different priorities in the way in which they control the generation wealth (& indeed how they apportion their budgets), but the respective administrations always seem to crash & burn in not dissimilar ways.

I don't think he could do the job at Right Back we're looking for. Maybe a squad player...

I saw William Hague at Northallerton station on the way back from Hartlepool. Unfortunately I didn't spot him soon enough to make a :tosser: sign at him.

Wasn't John Major a South London Grammar School boy?

Yes, yes he was.

And Ted Heath, Michael Howard and Maggie Thatcher were grammar school educated too. And William Hague was comprehensive school educated.

The Tories have made a conscious effort to move away from the jibe that they're public school toffs ... until now.
