If I see a girl smoking, no matter how fit they are, it puts me right off them. Could never go out with a smoker.

Also this. Kissing is such an important part of any physical relationship there is no way that I would want to do that with someone whose breath smelt like death, there is therefore no way that anything more intimate would occur. The worst thing for me was living in the Netherlands where far more women smoke than men, most of them have voices deeper than Barry White, not nice!

Last night I was at a birthday party and of the 30 or so people present there were no smokers, which is surprising in a fairly random selection of people, mostly in their 30's and 40's. I have to say that I now know very few people now who still partake of the weed, one of the few who does has survived two bouts of cancer, yet continues to ignore the facts about what smoking does to you.

Despite not being a smoker my view is live and let live, if people want to ignore all the medical evidence about what it can do to them then that is their call but just please don't do it in my presence. The thing that really annoys me is when I see either a pregnant woman smoking or people doing it in a car when children are present!

Ive tryed to stop smoking twice. The first time i tryed was when i was about 17 i worked for budgens in billingshurst in the evening one night as i came down from my break i walked in to the the delivery bay and got a gun pointed in my face. about 6 of us were locked in the bond room while they stole £1000 of petty cash and a few cartons of cigs and a couple of bottles of whiskey. So as you can imagine as soon as i got released from the bond room i sparked up a fag and started smoking again.
The second time i tryed to stop a couple of weeks ago i brought one of those starter inhaler kits. Then i got the cancer. Maybe a sign????

Given up a 40-60 a day habbit for over 7 years now and i could easily go out and have a roll up now....a nice bit of golden vag !!! Put on shit loads of weight since giving up and never been to the quacks as many times in my life. Bloody enjoyed a smoke but probably took it up to feel part of the in-crowd when i was young.

My dear nan gave up smoking woodbines when she was 60 and even on her deathbed at 95, she said she could murder a fag....gawd rest her soul.

Once a smoker, always a smoker

I'm a social smoker and had a few cigarettes yesterday but have never found nicotine addictive. Strange. f*** knows why I smoke?

Has it affected my health? Well I had two minutes to catch the train from the tube escalator at London Victoria station late last night and made it comfortably to platform 17. I would have given Usain Bolt a run for his money, scared the shit out of a few people though. :lolol: Wasn't even breathing heavily when I got on the train.

I am a smoker who isn't smoking at the moment. Personally love it but accept the harm it does. I think you'll find most smokers enjoy it and accept that even when they've given up that it's always gonna be a temptation occasionally, even long after the addiction has gone. I know people who started smoking again 8 years after they thought they'd quit
I packed up 9 years ago, i was on 30/40 a day , first one at 5:30 in the morning before i got out of bed, i gave up using willpower and patches, it is possible if you REALLY want to give up, I would advise people to use patches and have a little goal of something that is only really possible if they stay off the fags, it get a lot easier, at first you think you'll never enjoy a drink again , but you soon get used to it, but i still wouldnt trust myself to have even one now , and you still get occasional mental triggers when you really fancy one, but they soon go.
Good luck to anyone giving up !!

we're all going to die........might aswell enjoy it while we're here

plus, if you smoke, you'll probably die younger, saving the rest of the country a few bob in unpaid pensions

i've pretty much cut it out, mainly due to finances, but i find that during a long day i need a few just to keep me going

plus, smoking areas of pubs and clubs are ideal places to pick up lovely vaginas

some of you on this thread are coming across as self-righteous pricks, by the way

That's countered though by the loss of productivity of workers who are always ducking out for a smoke.

True enough but they would argue that as they can't smoke while they work then why shouldn't they. Some offices I've worked in had rooms set aside for smokers. Even in a small room I've seen it when you literally couldn't see across the room, it's then you feel disgusted.

I presume you mean contracting HIV? If you're going to be offensive, at least get your facts correct.

Nice point but semantics all the same. Why should the irresponsible smokers and those who have HIV and or AiDS from unprotected sex be treated differently? The fact is if we are going to slate smokers for being selfish about their proclivity and how it affects society lets not be precious about other examples of reckless conduct, and i would lump those who contract STDs and particularly HIV (and ultimately AIDS) in that category. There is nothing offensive about having consistency.

As many have established on this thread the "don't die of ignorance" is no excuse for smokers and the same dynamic applies to those dying of AIDS (as you know they wont die from HIV). I trust the pious intolerant non smokers on this thread have not been a drain on the scarce resources of the NHS because they selfishly chose to avoid using the appropriate protection when rutting.

In my student days I was a proper smoker. Used to smoke 15-20 camels.

Nowadays I have one on the way to work with a coffee and thats it, except maybe one or two if i'm out drinking with chums which is a rarity due to sprog capers. I'ld say I average less than 10 a week. This in my opinion makes me a lot closer to being a non smoker than a smoker who smokes 100 a week.

The smoking ban came at just the right time for me as I rarely smoke and now have kids to take to public places. However it does bother me the way smoker are looked down upon. To some people its the only luxury they get.

It winds me up the way some people are so anti smoking but are happy to pollute our atmosphere with swearing and not controlling their kids and also dont mind being unhealthy by shoving junk food down their throats.

Live and let live a bit maybe.

The problem is if a non-smoker got up as often as a smoker did and just went and stood outside they'd be hauled in front of the boss and questioned for wasting time.

I'm not sure I can support the idea that workers should be allowed to take time out from work to smoke.

Smoke during lunch break fair enough, but businesses shouldn't be obliged to allow workers to satisfy their addiction outside of periods such as lunch breaks.

Maybe a more balanced way to deal with smoke breaks would be to say that employees are entitled to a set amount of breaks during the working day and it is up to them how they are used, whether that be eating, smoking or nipping off to the shops, that way non-smokers wouldn't consider they were being disadvantaged by not going for a fag every hour or so.

If a non-smoking employee expected to be granted time out of their work routine to go and satisfy any other addiction, whether that be having a bong, surfing porn or flicking through the pages on NSC they would probably face dismissal!

I smoked heavily, gave up due to the smell, cost & health reasons, started because I thought it was cool .. It wasn't.
