As a former Home Office Civil Servant, Andy Burnham, as he is a genuine, decent bloke, unfortunately too good as a junior Minister so we lost him as he got promoted. From Labour's point of view, it has to be David Milliband. Labour have to win back places like Basildon, Swindon, Reading and Bristol to get back into power. I'm afraid what the the likes of Consett and Easington want doesn't matter; they have no choice but to vote for whoever is elected, unless they decide to vote Green. A socialist will not appeal to the South and West, and other areas Labour have to win back. As a Tory voter, I would like it to be Ed Balls, as he can't even grasp the need, as the former Chancellor Darling did. He is no opposition for Cameron, or even Osborne in my view. Although a Tory, I would like to see a decent opposition leader and am sorry Alan Johnson did not put himself forward. Another good bloke, and he does not feel the need to constantly shout about the Tory leadership's background, which in my view is irrelevant, as most of the public seem to feel, unlike a few class war twerps.

As a Conservative voter,I do not really care who wins.However I am almost certain that brother David will win...Ed would take the party too far to the left for many of the electorate's taste....Diane Abbott no chance,same with Burnham.As for Mr.Balls he is too unpopular with both the electorate and much of the Labour Party and anyway,with those staring eyes he looks slightly mad and that matters!
IMHO,David will have to work hard to throw off the geeky rather weedy image he has.Can't see him inspiring others in the party,let alone the electorate.

Anyway out of the likely winners Ed Milliband would be my choice as he at least recognises the New Labour was part of the problem.

If David wins then they are truly f**ked and deservedly so.

My thoughts as well. I sent my ballot sheet off today. Ed Milliband first, Ed Balls second. The latter choice is more a wishful tactic to keep David Milliband out of the picture than a genuine second choice.

David Milliband for me. Yes he comes across a tad smug, but so does Cameron. He's a smart guy, and knows what needs to be done. He's the only one that can make Labour a force at the next election IMO.

For anyone who think Labour can't win the election, just look at what's happened in 3 years in Australia to show that party comebacks are possible

DQ, what are you on about?I have not admitted as a Conservative voter that I know nothing and as for my knowledge of the Labour party,I take a general interest in politics and like everybody else in the country am free to express my opinion.
I think you will find that the opinion I did express would probably line up with that of many others.....Conservative or Labour.Is that O.K. with you?

Like me probably a great deal, having had the dubious pleasure of living under a Labour government between 1997 and 2010 that was corrupt, economically inept (leaving the country with a monumental debt crisis), allowed massive immigration (having said it would be controlled), led the country into costly wars on lies, failed to help small businesses during the bank scandals, and let most of our inner cities and towns become derelict, boarded up, grafitti riddled no go areas where immorality, degeneracy and drug and alcohol abuse is rampant. Poured money into foreign aid which allows corrupt governments like Pakistan develop nuclear weapons and subsidise Islamic terrorists killing our troops, while tens of thousands of our own old people die of hypothermia each year because they cannot afford to heat their homes.Get the picture?

Oh and left students with massive debts (including my two daughters).
