John McCarthy.

In football, Stewart Pearce - his autobiography is superb.

For the Albion, got to be Chappers or Mayo - local boys, fans of the club, lived/living the dream.

Meopham, Kent.
I think the title of "HERO" is too easily won in most people's minds. A few goals here or a penalty save there.

My all-time hero is not a footballer, nit even a sportsman.

Terry Waite.

Sorry to get all serious on you all.

Peter Shilton and Terry butcher were my earliest footballing heros . Mind you I also thought JR Ewing was a good role model!

Footballer: Shaun Goater, for being more than just a footballer, awarded an MBE for his services to charity in Bermuda

Overall hero: John Denver. A man with the ability to write superb tunes in the space of a couple of hours. Cared more about the environment and the poor than about his back pocket. He just liked the countryside and not the city (I'm the opposite) and wanted to sing about it. Legend.
