Well, quite frankly, lots of Americans are morons or haven't you noticed ? there is a a culture of shoot first, ask questions later which even extends up to the very top. The President can order a drone strike to bomb some unsuspecting militant in his own back yard wthout trial or legal retribution.

And, can you please explain why these households feel the need to have guns then ? is it just keeping up with the Jones's or the Smith & Wessons ?

"Banging on" is an understatement. The Maine state constitution states "Every citizen has a right to keep and bear arms and this right shall never be questioned. "

I was thinking of the second amendment one, it being federal and not state - "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
