"Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" by John Lennon.

Miserable, morbid, dreary, tedious, depressing shite.

On Friday afternoon I was in the process of buying myself a new jumper in 'Next'. I had tried on a medium but it was a little tight, so I asked the assistant for a large instead. Then Lennon's dismal trash came over the tannoy. I advised the assitant that the shop had just lost itself a sale and walked out.

I genuinely HATE that song.

(I got myself a nice jumper in 'H&M' in the end, and it was cheaper than the one in 'Next', so all's well that ends well).

I think I've gone mad. I thought the title of this thread was 'What's Your LEAST Favourite Festive Song'!

I'll go and have a lie down......

Except after you've worn it once it'll lose its shape and it'll go all bobbly:lolol:

A tricky one to track down, but if you can find the 10 minute remix of "In the Bleak Midwinter" by Jane Siberry it is quite hypnotic in a way.

Other than that, the Greg Lake one is good, if cynical. The Kinks' Father Christmas is quite a good bit of social justice criticism, but again rather cynical.

But I'd also go with "O Holy Night" by John Berry (no relation to Nick!)

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Bah, humbug!" No, that's too strong
'Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year's been a busy blur
Don't think I have the energy

To add to my already mad rush
Just 'cause it's 'tis the season.
The perfect gift for me would be
Completions and connections left from

Last year, ski shop,
Encounter, most interesting.
Had his number but never the time
Most of '81 passed along those lines.

So deck those halls, trim those trees
Raise up cups of Christmas cheer,
I just need to catch my breath,
Christmas by myself this year.

Calendar picture, frozen landscape,
Chilled this room for twenty-four days,
Evergreens, sparkling snow
Get this winter over with!

Flashback to springtime, saw him again,
Would've been good to go for lunch,
Couldn't agree when we were both free,
We tried, we said we'd keep in touch.

Didn't, of course, 'til summertime,
Out to the beach to his boat could I join him?
No, this time it was me,
Sunburn in the third degree.

Now the calendar's just one page
And, of course, I am excited
Tonight's the night, but I've set my mind
Not to do too much about it.

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.

Hardly dashing through the snow
Cause I bundled up too tight
Last minute have-to-do's
A few cards a few calls
'Cause it's r-s-v-p
No thanks, no party lights
It's Christmas Eve, gonna relax
Turned down all of my invites.

Last fall I had a night to myself,
Same guy called, halloween party,
Waited all night for him to show,
This time his car wouldn't go,

Forget it, it's cold, it's getting late,
Trudge on home to celebrate
In a quiet way, unwind
Doing Christmas right this time.

A&P has provided me
With the world's smallest turkey
Already in the oven, nice and hot
Oh damn! Guess what I forgot?

So on with the boots, back out in the snow
To the only all-night grocery,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the line is that guy I've been chasing all year!

"I'm spending this one alone," he said.
"Need a break; this year's been crazy."
I said, "Me too, but why are you?
You mean you forgot cranberries too?"

Then suddenly we laughed and laughed
Caught on to what was happening
That Christmas magic's brought this tale
To a very happy ending! "

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!

Actually, I think Happy Xmas (War is Over) is brilliant. "War is over - if you want it..."

Greg Lake's song is pretty good - just staying on the acceptable side of cheesy - "The Christmas we get - we deserve..." Nice refrain of Prokofiev in there as well.

Wham's song is BLOODY f***ing AWFUL.

A Spaceman Came Travelling - Chris de Burgh
Santa Baby - Eartha Kitt

"Santa Baby,
Just slip a sable under the tree
For me
Been an awful good girl
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, a '54 convertible too
Light blue
I'll wait up for you, dear
Santa baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun I've missed
Think of all the fellas that I haven't kissed
Next year I could be just as good
If you'll check off my Christmas list

Santa Baby, I want a yacht and really thats not
A lot
Been an angel all year
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa honey, one little thing I really need
The deed
To a platinum mine
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa cutie, and fill my stocking with a duplex
And cheques
Sign your 'x' on the line
Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Come and trim my Christmas tree
With some decorations bought at Tif-fa-ny
I really do believe in you
Lets see if you believe in me

Santa Baby, forgot to mention one little thing
A ring
I don't mean on the phone
Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry down the chimney tonight
Hurry...tonight "
