Got our arses kicked in what became Iraq in 1914-15. Our army surrendered to the Ottomans.

Of course we went back in in 1917 and took the place over

I'm not sure getting our arses kicked was the correct analogy, and I still stand by my first statement, since when have we lost a war in Iraq!

If I was PM I would do the following:

Halt the privatisation of Royal Mail and start up a peoples bank in co-operation with the Post Office.
Re-nationalise the railways.
Have an elected second chamber in Westminster.
Have four year fixed term parliaments for both houses.
Introduce PR voting for both houses.
Pay MPs more money but ensure that they can claim no expenses at all and they can do no other work than that of an MP.
Bring back safe standing in all football grounds in the UK.

The war in the Middle East lasted from 1914 till 1918 and we didn't lose it, we lost battles and campaigns like Kut and Gallipoli, but we didn't lose the war in the Middle east.
