Kompany normaly plays very well and holds our midfield well for the rest to get forward am lost for words trying to explain last night performance its like we thought we only had to turn upto win it

Not to overlook this intrinsic factor; our players displayed many touches of skill, often got past their man and even took on several of yours and beat them.

You where the better team if you play like that every week you should go up this season one of your attacking mid field players looked very good (sorry dont know hes name) he worked very hard and was all over the place

Reserve might of been a bit strong but if there not in our normal starting 11 thats the way i see them i think fringe/ backups might be a better way to describe half of them, with irelands recent form he may just force elano out of the starting 11 when petrov returns hes looking like a good player in the making

Zabaglioni looked pretty average last night. Drove to the game with two Man City fans based in Kent and they were excited about seeing Evans in the flesh - and they were right - he looked dangerous when he came on.

Glad you've conceded it wasn't a reserve side, but SWP and Robinho would have made it harder for us no doubt!

Must admit the drive back to Kent was a bloody site more happy than the trip down to the match!

If you mean Zabaleta alot of players didnt perform last night for what ever reason, did your style of football just bambozle them? was it your players not letting us play? did we just think we just had to turn up to win it? i have no answer not that i could see much from the away end makes a quick note, if we play you again am sitting in the home end LoL

Mark Hughes has made no excuses for City's shock exit from the Carling Cup at Brighton.
The Blues went out on penalties after the hosts had drawn level in the 89th minute, and speaking afterwards the Manager said:

"We got into a situation where we should have seen the game out quite comfortably. Certainly in the second half I felt we were controlling it well, but we switched off at the end.

"Unfortunately in extra time we switched off again and allowed them to take the lead. We showed character to get level and get to penalties, but we should have never allowed it to get to that stage with the chances we had in the second half, when we should have put the game to bed."

The starting line up at the Withdean Stadium showed several changes from the one that began City's win over Portsmouth, but Hughes felt that the team picked was more than good enough to close the tie out,

"The team I put out was strong enough. I made six changes but quality players came in, maybe it showed that some of the guys are not up to match fitness. Some have not had a lot of football, and that will affect the tempo you will play at.

"Credit to Brighton, they ran every ball down. Once it went to penalties it's a lottery that could have gone either way. Unfortunately we missed out, we move on but good luck to Brighton.

"Tonight was not a great night, but we cannot dwell on that as we have games coming up thick and fast. We have to pick ourselves up quickly."

I was pretty impressed with City's attitude early on, I must say. Was hoping they'd be a lot more complacent. I suppose it's human to only do what's needed, and it was clear they had an extra gear after Thomson hit the post. Thought we might get pummelled for a few minutes after that.

Obviously, we were in their faces constantly, but I reckon City's defeat was in their own heads in the end. You could see them (well, if you weren't half a mile away behind the goal - sorry) getting increasingly annoyed with themselves for not burying those chances. And obviously, as their frustration increased, our belief grew and grew.

On the reserve front, I know what you're saying... but that's a fairly fundamental difference between the PL and the lower divisions. Yours are internationals. One of our subs was a second year scholar. We're always being told it's a squad game these days for the biggest clubs, so you can't really have it both ways! If you can bring on a relatively unknown 'reserve' striker in extra time who cost about 17 times the amount of the entire opposition team, there's no excuse.......

I see what your saying about our fringe players being internationals and its a good point most of them would start for lower EPL sides and as hughes said he put a strong side out but i think hes mistake was to field players who havent played a lot of football this season yet and not fully match fit but fair play to you for getting the win

I was talking to some of your fans after the game and you have had it rough over the last few years a hope this victory is the start of better times for your club if you have a good cup run you can bring some much needed money in and after last night i cant see why you wont

Just wanted to say congrats for last night's great result, it sounded like you thoroughly deserved it and fair play to Brighton. All this 'it wasn't City's first team' baloney may be true up to a point, but i wouldn't mind placing a bet that one of those so called reserves Ben Haim for example is on more a week than the vast majority of Brighton's players are on in a year so it makes a mockery of the argument really. Credit where it is due it was a fantastic achievement.
