if he is a defender, he must have been signed as cover as Bridge is not going to get dropped. sounds a good option though

Agreed, the other option is he could play at centre back as both El-Abd and Greer have looked shaky in some games this season.

I think he might be more of a DS squad member for the rest of this season rather than first team. Could be wrong

Apparently he was a bit of a flop at CSKA but was the best defender in the Latvian league last year where the standard is lower

Vitalijs Maksimenko (born December 8, 1990 in Riga) - Latvian footballer who plays the position of defender side.
Club career [edit]
Vitalijs Maksimenko began his career at FK Rīgas skola football in 2005, where he played the first professional football match was played there matches of 2007. Once-yearly break, in 2009, signed his first contract with the club where he played as a junior. In his first season he participated in 9 matches played in Virslīdze, in between the player was loaned to the Moscow club CSKA Moscow, where he was a member of the reserve team. After returning from a loan to Daugava Riga 90, on 15 March 2010, signed a contract and joined Trial Skonto FC, later extended.
Maksimenko is a former member of the Latvian national team U-17 Cup nożej, is also the team leader of Latvia U-19, the first time it presented itself in 2009, taking part qualifying for the European Championship U-19 national football team [1]
