Ok I just noticed that the title of the article is that we have returned with a bid they cannot refuse, so perhaps we have.

Here is the whole article, judge for yourself. Some interesting stuff further into the article too.

"Brighton returns with bid for Van Dijk that FC Groningen can not refuse"

Johan Derksen has tonight in RTL7 program Football International said Martin Henk Chin has had contact with Brighton, Brighton and said to come back with an offer "that FC Groningen can not refuse." Actually, this statement is somewhat exaggerated form of the above message.

Apparently Chin has also been in the club Brighton deepened. He tells us that the club just a new stadium into use and ambitious plans. Within three years wants the club to the Premier League promoted. The fact that Virgil initially not at the highest level in England would come to play football Chin looks just like a good step in the context of the career planning of the young Van Dijk. In Brighton he would be achieved if player base, where the clubs from the Premier League he believed the width would like to buy, making the transition to Brighton may be the better choice is: "A digression, and from there the step to the top can, "said Chin.

The agent considers a transfer fee of € 2.5 to 3,000,000 a realistic amount for Van Dijk, who at FC Groningen until 2015 under contract. He realizes that Hans Nijland here thinks otherwise. Already gave the general manager of FC Groningen's bid reportedly € 2.4 million of Brighton right to have laid aside. However, the club not only think of themselves, but also to Virgil, takes Chin. Any contract extension with the Pride of the North closes Chin not to hand, but believes that the development of Virgil might be better to another club to go: "If something good comes along, it might be sensible to to go. And Brighton is a good thing. "

If yesterday's game against FC Utrecht Van Dijk for interested clubs have sat in the stands, it can not be excluded that a further 10 exciting days of the winter transfer window closes. Virgil van Dijk played a great game yesterday and will take interest only seeing increasing.

In the paper edition of the newspaper of the North comes Martin Henk Chin, the agent of Virgil van Dijk, to talk about interest from other clubs in the central defender. Chin indicates that his pupil myself open to a possible transition to Brighton, despite the fact that the club in England at the highest level football.

Brighton & Hove Albion last Thursday and so far only club an official bid for Van Dijk released. Chin also think that Brighton is not in this one offer will be: "I expect that Brighton is still a step up. Virgil is a type of defender that fits well in England. There is much more interest to him than hitherto to the outside come. Also from Germany, but especially from England. "

So according to this article we tabled 2.4M (Euros) but 2.5M - 3M would do it. We are not far off then.

Hahaha, more interestingly, here's the report on the same site about our initial bid...

Translation:

"Brighton has £ 2 million (€ 2.4 million) bid on Virgil van Dijk; Van Dijk is open for Brighton "

What are we going to the remaining 14 days of this transfer window experience yet? Then Salisbury-Jones, sports journalist at the particularly in Newcastle and Sunderland Tyne & Wear, has targeted Sky this morning on the website of Sky (watch the video from 2 ' 25 '') and on Twitter said that the English Brighton a bid on Virgil van Dijk would have delivered, and that Virgil would open stand for a transfer to Brighton.

The journalist said that the rumor has not yet been confirmed and that he was also not sure of is that FC Groningen will accept the bid. He calls no amounts, but according to TEAM talk, that relies on the Daily Mirror, it would go to £ 2 million (€ 2.4 million).

Brighton: Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, full, does not come from in the premium League but plays one level lower. In the Premiership after matches, the 26 on a eighth place. It would not surprise us if Virgil van Dijk precisely a smaller English club as the ideal drop step would see, and not a club where he can count on a base may not place.

North Stand Chat, a forum of Brighton, following the rumor has become a topic in life called with the telling name Bizarre Transfer Speculation-Virgil van Dijk.

"Meeting with club officials Saturday Virgil van Dijk of Brighton"

Soccer_sauce is very swift and says that Virgil van Dijk tomorrow (Saturday) to meet with club officials of Brighton. Since the last training tomorrow FC Groningen in the run-up to the game with FC Utrecht to finish we cannot imagine that Van Dijk talks with Brighton tomorrow will bring.

Shhhh, the dutch are watching, and they think @soccer_sauce is bullshit too :D

Bizarre Transfer Speculation - Virgil van Dijk

This lad is gonna be something special if we sign him...up there with signing Lawrenson in the late 70s ahead of Liverpool and in very similar circumstances....I'm gonna be over the moon if this happens!

Will be the only bidders? is his agent using us, sorry to be negative but this guy sounds like the real deal.

Sounds like everyone thinks this would be a good move, specifically because we are not in the PL, so it doesn't sound like they want someone else to come in.

What I was thinking is that talk of PL clubs coming in with £5M bids may have been a way of getting us to up our offer and urgency. Guess they don't realize we have a professional poker player as Chairman :D

If no one else comes in TB might lower his bid.

Knowing the Dutch are watching us makes me nervous. Really nervous....

Maybe some NSC car/fish puns on his name might impress him like it did Ulloa. He signed within hours of the excellent wordsmithery starting on the Leo Ulloa thread.
