Quite frankly, if this forum costs six grand a year to run, then new hosts should be sought.

I'm sure Bozza would be delighted if you put him in touch with a reliable and cheaper alternative host. I am also pretty sure you will struggle to find one.

Allowing Google to dictate to you what you can and can't have on YOUR forum is totally unacceptible.

Given the number of views this site recieves each day, it would be a very simple process to obtain advertising from an alternative source to that odious American, power-mad bunch.

Not to me it isn't. The internet was founded on porn, there are 10billion other forums for it. But there's only 1 NSC so simple for me - ban anything that would be considered indecent and take a leaf out of our muslim cousins if you're not sure what that means just to be on the safe side.

Is Google our new automated moderator ? It will be a sad day when we can no longer call a Palace fan a muggy **** because its considered too mature.

As has been said Google is a third party in this, they just deal with the taking in and dishing out the cash. It is probably an advertiser that has picked up on certain things.

I am pretty certain that when you click on a link a record is kept of the exact page it was clicked from and this is sent to the advertiser along with their monthly bill. They may well then see that a site called northstandchat.com is costing them a lot of money per month, come and have a look at what the thread was about and see all sorts of things.

And for those of you saying about the russian brides and other adult themed ads, they should vanish when people stop talking about tits and other adult stuff. The ads are geared to the content of the page being displayed

I'm sure Russian brides will pop up if someone posts about Kanchelskis or Gotsmanov :lolol: It seems like Google like raking in the cash from the advertisers and if we don't comply 100% they switch the ads off (red card) without giving any leeway (yellow card)

Then if that happens Bozza should fire an email off to Google complaining that the ads are not appropriate. It does work both ways. I run a similar thing to google ads on one of my sites and if an ad appears that is not suitable I can go into the control panel and turn it off. Im sure google has the same sort of thing

Google should be doing that in the first place and if the odd advertiser complains about site content then they're opted out and the ads go to a different site.

£1 a year is nothing, nothing at all. Why not make it £2.50 a year (21p per month) and double your income and do whatever we like! 5000 users paying 21p a month is £12500 a year!

No, they're geared to a lot of factors, one is the place your posting from. The reason I get so many Russian bride ads (not just here, but on every site that uses google ads) is that I'm posting from Cyprus.

I have no objection to getting them, I just ignore them.

However, I DO object to Google complaining that our site is too adult WHILE they're sending me (and pretty much any child that logs on from Cyprus) that everywhere I go on the net. If they don't want to be associated with adult sites, they shouldn't be taking their money.

More likely would be 500-700 paying £10-12 a year. But how dull would NSC become with 500 posters?

Losing those threads would break my heart, but I understand Bozza, not everyone is the 18-34 year old male category who likes football and beautiful semi naked women. sigh....

for the record, I'd rather pay a small fee and keep the posts.

clutching at straws here but can't we have a members only 18+ section that doesn't come up on google searches and a family stand area that's clean that does?

Give me 15 seconds and I'll find you a host that will give you unlimited traffic, unlimited data base storage and a host of other features for less than a 10th of that price.

Give a minute, and I'll find you 10 companies.

You really have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to vBulletin hosting for a site as busy as NSC. As I've said - traffic/bandwidth and storage space are not an issue.

Please leave this thread - you are not helping.
