Totally agree.
He's got to change the team, something not clicking previously, so GP gets paid to make the decisions, so let's see how it pans out FFS.

But starting a game without a recognised striker? It’s completely reasonable for fans to say “wtf?” and ask questions.

Exactly this. 3rd choice keeper, CB in midfield again whilst players who are CMs are on the bench, no strikers on the pitch. Worrying.
