This has to be the most over rated film franchise in the history of cinema. However some people think they are great and I just don't see it.

Depp is an excellent actor but his stupid , over the top, half drunk, Keith Richards role just gets my back up, feck off Depp you tosser  . The Academy were on drugs when he was nominated for best actor oscar. Give me Depp in Scissorhands or Nick of Time anytime.

The films are 2 and a half hours of utter shite. I thought part 1 was dissapointing but the second half was total nonsense and a waste of 150 minutes of my life.

It took $ 1 000 000 at the box office and is 3rd of all time.

And to make matters worse I have to put up with this shite film over Xmas as " the big film ".

Whats the verdict ?

Depp has been a poor actor for about 20 years now. His finest moment was being chopped and sucked into his bloody bed by Freddie Breadknife hands in about 1989.
Damnit he is pretty though. Even with faked pocks on his cheeks and a partly shaved ladygraph for a beard.

I will give the Caribs a miss. Not because Speilberg says so though, as his trilogy is weaker than Back to the Future's pre-Parkinson triplets.

When I read "Spielberg is right yet again", I thought the namesake film director had actually done something INTERESTING and criticised a film he didn't like. How silly of me...

I thought the film was a jolly good ROMP which didnt take itself too seriously.

So watchable.

...but surely the greatest film franchise in history has to be Police Academy.

...or Karate Kid, come to think of it.

...or Beethoven.

Most of those are designed to make money with big stars, expensive budgets for special effects, aiming for a clientele with a minimal IQ, who wants loud noises, pretty people and thought-less films. Missing many, many great films on that list.

Absolutley. Disengage brain. Sit Back. Enjoy.

Quite surprised to see it so high up the list of box office takings though, its not THAT good (although it is better than some of the other shite on the list - Spiderman for example)

Really? Thats news to me. Presumably you haven't seen Blow, Sleepy Hollow, Donnie Brasco, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Libertine. He's superb in all of them actually. You should give them a whirl sometime.

Depp was superb in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Plus he can laugh at himself in the Fast Show. Wanker.

No, i have seen him in all of them, and he's a kissable gassy blurb in all of the above. Donnie Brasco i would agree he almost had a character. But, in general, he is given a name and lives for seconds as a pastiche, a handsome accident. A lookalike. A computerised portrait. A postcard.

I could name him on a castlist, but not remember what he truly managed to tattoo on each film.
He's not my sugary cup of tea.
