Colin did you see Kermodes 1 hour interview with the beard last night for his 60th birthday ???
No, I saw bits of it before (that was on about a month ago?) and it was...not bad actually. I thought you hated Kermode?!

Bit of a subjective view from someone who rates himself as a bit of a film buff. I've only seen the first one and thought it was good, no better, no worse. It does what it says on the tin, no shite performances from any of the actors and a very good one from Depp, an ok script, an ok storyline, nice visually, if it's not your thing then don't watch it.

This has to be the most over rated film franchise in the history of cinema. However some people think they are great and I just don't see it.

Depp is an excellent actor but his stupid , over the top, half drunk, Keith Richards role just gets my back up, feck off Depp you tosser  . The Academy were on drugs when he was nominated for best actor oscar. Give me Depp in Scissorhands or Nick of Time anytime.

The films are 2 and a half hours of utter shite. I thought part 1 was dissapointing but the second half was total nonsense and a waste of 150 minutes of my life.

It took $ 1 000 000 at the box office and is 3rd of all time.

And to make matters worse I have to put up with this shite film over Xmas as " the big film ".

Whats the verdict ?

He was good in 21 Jump Street:bowdown:

Twister, Titanic? The Matrix sequels are the worst films i've ever and there's about ten godawful and pointless big budget remakes

I'm not a film buff or anything so I'm sure my view is worth nothing...

I've only seen the first Pirates movie. It was an entertaining enough way of passing a couple of hours. I have no interest in watching it again though. I also thought that Jonny Depp was rather good in it. His over the top, self-indulgent performance was very enjoyable IMO. It seemed to me that he was aware it was a cheesy, throw away, money making piece of fun and so went as extravegant as he could.

That list of the top 50 money makers of all time is a SHIT list, isn't it?

I have to say I agree with Meado. Depp is decent at outreagous characters detached from reality but when playing a more grounded role he tends to come off as a cyper, an actor player an actor playing a normal man.

A large percentage of those films are shit. Give me something about incest, memory disorders and a dead cop that actually explores its themes in an intelligent and stylistically interesting way and thats a film.

Spiderman - much better - Melodramatic and oddly dull
