Despite the fear of violence Brighton heyday for crowds really was around 76- 78, luckily for me my first three years of going.

Why not???

Is that when we had 25k down, and it kicked off everywhere?:lolol::jester:

Because this is a Brighton site and the thread was on size of crowds?

Not on Tottenham nor on trouble between the two.

I was at them all!

Are you trying to show off?

If so, can I join you. I was at them all, too.

I was also at a game at the Goldstone against Spurs when it all kicked off.........

Anyway back to the Spurs game...

The shennigans in Brighton came about because at the game at White Hart Lane we more than held our own - both on and off the pitch. The game finished 0-0 and a large and vociferous Brighton contingent stood their ground and gave as good as they got - probably better. (Blimey this is sounding like one of those hooligan sites but it can't be helped).

Getting battered at their own ground enraged the Spurs hoolies and they plotted revenge. For the Goldstone game they came down on the Friday night and generally created mayhem in the town as Brighton could never get a big enough mob together to face them. As has been mentioned they had tickets for the North Stand and got there early, so when we got there we found it was full of yids. (They'd also sprayed a classic bit of graffiti on the bridge at Hove station: 'THFC - we are waiting' to greet us as we came off the train!)

Again as has been said at some point they just started battering everybody in sight and there was a bit of stampede as a lot of Brighton fled in terror. I'm pleased to say (and yes, also a bit proud) that I stood my ground, I'd be buggered if I was going to let some windowlicking yid drive me away from my usual spot. It was all a bit chaotic and at one point after the initial surge I found myself surrounded by Spurs. The focus then shifted to the west stand, and kudos to (and I use the word advisedly), the HERO on the roof of the tea hut who like Leonidas at the battle of Thermopylae simply refused to be beaten. Every time the yids tried to get him they got battered.

Not sure what happened next but there was definitely a counter-attack and we ended up reclaiming at least the western end of the North Stand. Trouble continued the whole game though, at one time spilling onto the pitch forcing the ref to take the players off.

Happy days! Oh, and we won 3-1

:glare:The last time a team came to the Lane and took libertys was 1977, and that Was Arsenal, funnily enough. ;);):jester:

We lose 5-0, and Arsenal had the whole of the Paxton and the Park Lane. I've never heard the storys of the home game against Brighton in 78 though.

The land of chocolate
Boring fact of the day:

Brighton's actual record attendance according to football league records is 36,342 for the 1958 Fulham match, not 36,747.

Since 1925 professional clubs have been required to provide the Football League with match attendances. The figure registered by the Albion was 36,342. I'm not sure why there is a difference, but my guess is the 36,747 figure was the one released by the club on the day, but after checking the count was revised down to 36,342, and this lower figure was provided to the FL.
