I've just gone through to see if I have hugely missed any point.
How many of our 8 medal targets are 'home grown' talents.
Paid for and trained through UK funding?

Being a layman (I know less than cycling, but more than judo) when it comes to athletics.
I am under the impression we have 'brought in' foreign talent to boost our team, through dubious grand parents.

I assume these athletes (if they exist) haven't been trained and funded through UK Athletics.

Because I am under the impression they have come to Team GB late, because they didn't qualify for this Olympics with their 'home' nation.

You could just answer the question Hans, it would be a lot easier.

I'm sure there are people who have asked novice cycling questions of me, who are fookin glad they didn't get such obtuse answers, that don't actually answer anything.
This is the point I missed
I could answer, but I'm by no means an athletics expert.

I know there is an 'American' girl, that your comments could apply to, but I'm not aware of any others, personally.

Yamile Aldama has competed previously for Cuba AND Sudan, but she is married to a Brit, has lived here for 12 years, and has been in a battle for a British passport for years and years.

Farah, if anyone tries to level the allegation at him, moved to England at age NINE.
So obviously I apologise Hans for these 2.

I'm not being snide I NOT KNOW THE ANSWER, and instead of getting answers to questions that would help my understanding. I'm getting pissed off because the person engaging with me, won't actually put me straight.

Or ask genuine questions based on media reporting from a couple of months ago?

If someone who actually knew the answer had answered me by saying, as I did to you re cycling, I would then know the truth.
I don't see how you thought your input would help more than the actual answer.

Not wishing to be an arse, but my vague memory of the press at the time, gave me the impression of a massive amount of athletes akin , to the American girl. Is that not the case?

Who is this 'American Girl'? Does she have and deserve a name?

.

The one I was referring to, was Tiffany Porter.

Tiffany Adaez Porter (neé Ofili; formerly Ofili-Porter) (born 13 November 1987) is an American born British track and field athlete who specialises in the 100 metres hurdles. She represented the United States as a junior. She failed to achieve USA selection for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and switched allegiance to Great Britain in 2010.

Shana Cox, would be another, but to be fair, though she only switched allegiance in 2011, both her parents are British.

I'm beginning to grow tired of the smug cycling fanatics.
I guess one man pride is another's smug.

The whole debate, across a couple of threads, stems from funding, facilities, and value for money.

Like many on here I have been somewhat disappointed with many aspects of the swimming.

Placing that against the rowing & cycling it shows an ever great disappointment.
(Although that said, swimming is more popular amongst Olympic 'heavy weight' countries)

If asking for clarification as where the athletics money is going before the event makes me smug, nit picking and snide, then so be it.

This Johnson-Thompson bird is FINE

True that. Heptathletes are always hot, I think it is because they are all rounders so they need to be balanced rather than freakish like specialists.

So Mo Farah moves to the UK at age 9 and represents us with pride at the Olympics. Ryan Giggs moves to England at 7, yet people say he couldn't play for England, and even as captain of the team he can't even bring himself to sing the British anthem.

Women's heptathlon:
Jessica in the lead, but could someone explain who the main threats are, what their 2nd day record is and what Jessica's is. The BBC basically haven't told us, we just know she's doing well.

One way of seeing how much chance she has is to check the odds. She's 5/1 on! That's crazy.

She's amongst the best in the field at both the 800m and the long jump.

If she gets in a decent javelin ( she doesn't always) then she'll win gold.

The BBC have told us. Second day is a tough one. According to Michael Jordan if she comes through this strongly she is in pole big time.

Sorry, Johnson not Jordan. I'm sure he'd give a good view on the high jump though.

But that doesn't really tell us much. She's in the lead, so if she performs better than everyone else of course she wins, but everyone has different top events, so who are her main rivals and are they ahead of where they need to be or behind? Hans kraay has already said more than I've heard from the BBC.

I think you really are trying to make a point that does not exist. One athlete seems to be using us as a flag of convenience.

The rest are basically no different to Chris Froome.
