We should take a leaf out of the French foreign policy book and tell everyone, USA included, to go f*** themselves and fight their own wars.

I met an American recently who thought the French should be thankful to the Americans for saving their arses in WW2 and thought they should cowtow to American Foreign policy forever because of it, and yes he was deadly serious.

By the sound of things, the British Poodle has had its pampering session, the judges have laughed at it's little bark, and, although it has had it's nails clipped on a couple of issues it is on its way home now feeling quite loved...... for a while

Theres so much rubbish posted in this thread its hard to know where to begin.

Who wants to be an EU poodle?

These clowns are leftistt democrats, whos anti-westernism is as intrenched as our lot of fools.

firstly an education for the idiots not smart enough to read the Dailey Mail.

The Monroe Doctrine adhered to by the US meant it had no obligation to inform the UK about grenada or the Falklands. It did though share intelligence about the falklands being invaded which was dismissed by our spooks as being rubbish.

This is comical since we are subject to every EU law going, a virtual vassel state without any consultation with the people.

Remember Harold Wilson putting the boot into the so-called "special relationship" by refusing to send British troops to Vietnam?

The right decision and a precedent that Blair might have thought about in connection with Iraq.

Obama is a nob. Stop blaming BP you absolute light weight prick.

BP are no angels, they're a disgrace, they knew what the risks were in the attempt to gain a large fat profit from the oil.

But it sort of tells us that the US are showing that they have no right to be the most powerful country in the world, David Cameron will let Obama walk all over him defo.

He didn't need to go that far back, though, did he? Canada refusing to send troops to Iraq could have set a contemporary precedent. I suspect the US had taken Canada for granted. It also shows that you don't have to toe the US line, you just have to act for yourself. If the US is bossing the UK about, there is no-one to blame except the UK.

The Astral Planes, man...
During the Falklands they supplied us with their latest Sidewinder missiles for our Sea Harriers and Harpoon missiles for our Nimrods. Rumour has it they also offered us one of their carriers.

During WW2 they made us pay for all the equipment they supplied until we were bankrupt, then they changed to lend-lease.

Is there anyone who thinks otherwise, apart from politicians?

It would soon change if we actually properly embraced our European partners, IMO, by getting properly involved in Europe instead of pandering to the Daily Mail readership who flounce every time the EC pass a stupid law on how bent bananas are allowed to be.

Exactly.

I hate this country's obsession with America. It's embarassing because they couldn't give a shit.

Let it go Cameron. Do we really want another Blair/Bush situation?

A man with a first-class degree from Oxford and an A-Level in History from Eton knows f*** all about the second world ward

From the Telegraph
The US maintained neutrality until Germany and Japan declared war on it in December 1941 following the attack on Pearl Harbour, though it did previously supply the UK with war materials.

But Mr Cameron got his history wrong in an interview yesterday, as he explained his view of Britain as the junior partner in the transatlantic special relationship.

y News.

''We were the junior partner in 1940 when we were fighting the Nazis.''

Downing Street today insisted Mr Cameron's comments were not intended to belittle the efforts of Britain's troops at a time when the UK and its empire stood alone against the Nazis.

''The last thing that the Prime Minister would have wanted to do is create that impression,'' said a spokeswoman.

''He holds the armed forces in a very high regard.

''He was referring to the current relationship between the UK and US.''

People apparently dont want to be 'EU poodles' but happy to be 'USA poodles'

and USA joined the war in 1941, so how Britain was a junior partner in the war against the Nazis in 1940 is a bit baffling.
The Americans joined the European war the day after Pearl Harbour when Hitler declared war on the USA....the only country he actually declared war on as it happens.

I agree with you. Not to mention the US turning a blind eye to IRA terrorism in the 1980s where a lot of the funding came from over there.

Also, during WWII the British and Americans shared nuclear secrets to develop the Manhatten Project. As soon as the war was over, the US government stabbed the UK in the back by passing a bill saying that they would no longer share their nuclear technology with another nation despite using British expertise to help themselves. This should have been an early sign of things to come for Britain in this so-called "special relationship", it's like being in an abusive relationship with a partner who doesn't give a f*** about you. Wake up Britain, and stop being a doormat.

Ahh...to be fair to our transatlantic cousins, they rapidly realised, which we didn't or rather chose to ignore, that our secret services and other organisations were riddled with Communists planted in the 1930's or recruited as a result of the threat of US hegemony.

In the case of the Manhattan project, I think it was Klaus Fuchs who disclosed to the USSR a lot of the atomic bomb secrets. But of course Burgess Maclean Philby and Blunt were also beavering away (Or moling away?)

Having said that we do seem to need a wake-up call. Obama has no known UK otR Irish ancestry, rather a father from a UK former colony where independence was preceded by a bloody rebellion (Mau-Mau) in the 1950's where lives were shed on both sides and atrocities were common. Hardly surprising then that he does not instinctively warm to the beat of our National Anthem, is it?

Special relationship?

Late coming into two world wars and then allowing their film industry to distort history!

Trying to bastardize the 'beautiful game' (also bastardized Rugby!)

Slagging of BP (largely owned by the US shareholders) but standing by whilst Union Carbide got away with murder in Bhopal.

Have allowed Goldman Sachs off the hook for their contribution to the recent global recession. Slapped their wrists with a $550m fine and then a few days later they announce bonus payments of $3.5b!!! RBS (owned by you and me) lost $840m but have now got to put up with only $100m compensation.

Stolen the names of some of our great towns eg, Birmingham (!) Boston, York, Dover, Lewes, Seaford, (I get the impression early settlers to Delaware were from Sussex!) etc etc.

Are prepared to rape the planet of it's fossil fuels but refused to sign up to Kyoto agreement, arguing that they would invent the technolgy to save the planet (obviously they would then sell it to everyone else).

Rounders is a national sport!

They do however have some good theme parks.
