No chance of making the double header of Albion v LFC followed by Worthing v Margate ... especially as our Seagull Travel coach was knackered and we had to wait for a replacement coach which didn't turn up until 3.10pm!! Still, another 3 points for Worthing.

Off to Lancing FC Tuesday for Horsham v BHAFC in the Sussex Senior Cup Semi-Final (winner to play Worthing) ... and going to Lewes v Bishop's Stortford for pie, mash, mushy peas and gravy!!

Pretty sure the semi is a single legged affair. Well deserved win for the Golds today, better team on the day against the supposed favourites. Brilliant scenes in the clubhouse afterwards, really starting to believe it might be our year! Loughborough, Newport Pagnell and Hamworth (Poole) are the potential semi final opponents.

Was the bar open?

There was talk at the Amex that the LA Old Bill wanted a booze ban at the game, clearly unfounded rumour then?

Whereabouts is the Horsham ground & how can I get there from Horsham railway station?

It's 1.7 mile out of town towards the A24 on the Worhing Road . Park and ride opposite runs to and from town . 4 of us so we took a taxi then walked back to The Boars Head then took a cab from there .

This, the 98 bus towards Southwater stops opposite Horsham station, and will take you straight to Horsham's ground at Hop Oast, opposite the Park & Ride site, or cabs readily available at the rank next to the station.

Saw several crates of beer being carried away from the turnstiles, presumably having been brought to the match by some extreme optimists who thought they could sneak them in.

Alcohol was not sold during the match, and the Sportsman was not allowed to open until 30 mins after the game - and then for members only (plus their guests). That's where we spent most of the evening, celebrating along with all of the players and assorted club officials. Was a great day/night.

Looking at the teams left in the competition, there's no reason why we can't be confident going into the semi finals - although a home draw would clearly be a massive advantage.

It's in the rules of The FA Vase:

The consumption of alcohol in the ground or premises during the period of a match shall be subject to the terms of the Club licence agreement and the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol) Act 1985 and/or any successor legislation. Glasses, Glass bottles or cans containing alcohol are not permitted outside of the Clubhouse and must not be brought into grounds.

Great result for Littlehampton! Where are the other semi-finalists in comparison to LA in the football pyramid? Are they potential favourites now?

Also another win for Worthing, 3 tricky away games in a row coming up. 5 points from those and it’s as good as over, IMO

Hamworthy are Wessex League Premier Division, Newport Pagnell are United Counties League Premier Division South and Loughborough United Counties League Premier Division North, so reasonably similar. Definitely got a big chance now!

I'd wager that a win against 2nd placed Bishop's Stortford on Tuesday night could have the league all but wrapped up in reality when looking at the run-in. Presuming that Folkestone win their game in hand - because it seems very few teams around us in the top 5 are dropping points right now - a win on Tuesday would give us a 13 point lead with seven games to play.

All easier said than done mind you. We've definitely performed better against the top teams this year, and a lot of the mid-to-lower table teams have raised their game. If the Bisop's pitch is still a bit of a mess as it was when the initial game was called off three weeks, put playable, then it'll be a tough game as was the case at East Thurrock last Tuesday on a bad pitch.

Promotion is more and more beginning to feel within our grasp. With the passing of one of our most loyal and well loved fans, Kev Golds, last week, it really puts into perspective who promotion would be for. It's as much for those we've lost since the 2019-20 season was ruled null and void as it is for us fans there to see it, the players and staff. So many people connected to the core of Worthing FC - who supported the club through the bleakest years - are no longer with us and are the ones that deserved to see us make the historic next step into National South the most.
