Led Zeppelin, first proper rock band I ever saw live and its been downhill ever since.

I totally agree, each member was exceptional on their own
but amazing together, they had the best vocalist, the best
guitarist, the best bass player and the best drummer of their
generation. They were as good live as they were on vinyl.

...and no one has mentioned Free. Fire and Water is the finest album I own, bar none.

On another point, I would have loved to be a teenager in 1970. Imagine The Beatles calling it a day, Led Zeppelin at their peak, a band called Free releasing Fire and Water, Pink Floyd about to go stella, Who's Next in the shops.

All of this must have been magic, and Tapestry by Carole King was the chilled album of the time.

Can anyone imagine the "Pop World" clones having this much talent in any time? I think not.

People are simply listing their favourites rather than the greatest.

There is a difference.

My favourites have to be the Beatles but as said before for endurance and longevity The Rolling Stones

FIFTY SEVEN posts.

And no-one's mentioned CREAM.

This is the daftest Q on here since "should we keep Nicky Rust"

having given due consideration I decide to listen to some of my favourite ROCK

and I chose to listen to

KASHMIR
NO QUARTER
ROCK & ROLL
TRAMPLED UNDERFOOT
WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS

and a few other LED ZEP tunes

Who, Thin Lizzy, Stones ........... great bands but if you wanted to let someone know what rock music sounds like and didn't play LED ZEP to them you might as well play Erasure.

No Quarter
