I presume most funds dumped Zoom which crashed 20% yesterday.

And, yes, that's possibly even a clearer sign than Pfizer up that the corporate world is thinking of getting back to normal - and therefore VERY good news.

Unless you own Zoom.

Ummm, depends when you bought them. If you got them a year ago, then yesterday’s 20% ‘crash’ saw your current profit TUMBLING to only $340 per share. They closed at $410 today, and were $70 a year ago.

I wish I owned some

It’s not only the Pfizer share price that’s up.

Serum Institute of India, the world's largest vaccine producer, said on Thursday it has made 40 million doses of AstraZeneca's potential COVID-19 vaccine, and would soon begin making Novavax's rival shot, as they both seek regulatory approval.

I believe 4m of this vaccine are due for the UK before the end of 2020, assuming UK regulatory approval is achieved.

Fauci is optimistic about Moderna's vaccine.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. infectious disease expert, said Moderna could have the data from anywhere between “a couple of days” to “a little more than a week.”

A high degree of effectiveness would make sense as it is "almost identical" to Pfizer Inc's PFE.N experimental vaccine, Fauci, director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said at a conference organized by the Financial Times.

“It may not be 95%, it might be 90%, or 96%, or 89%, but it is going to be up there,” he said.

COVID-19 update

We at BSUH currently caring for 60 people with COVID-19 in our hospitals. Of these, 3 are in our Critical Care units.

Whilst the news about the COVID vaccine is positive we don’t yet have any details of timescales and deployment. We will update as soon as we know more. It is likely that there is a necessary gap of up to four weeks between the flu jab and the COVID jab. If you haven’t already done so, please get your flu jab as soon as possible to ensure you are able to have your COVID vaccine as soon as it is available.

Numbers are down on last week so good stuff :)

Good to see they were on the money. The latest NHS Hospital Beds report backs you up  https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/statistical-work-areas/covid-19-hospital-activity/
(Just posting to prove your credibility for those that may doubt it)

East Sussex Healthcare for the same day reported 24 patients with Covid-19 & 2 in ventilator beds. Western Sussex Hospitals, 13 with none in ICU.

For those wondering, I don't tend to concentrate on Surrey & Sussex Healthcare due to them not providing any acute hospital care from site within Sussex.

France’s lockdown now looks to be having a big effect, two weeks in.

New coronavirus infections and hospital admissions for Covid-19 dropped sharply at the end of the second week of a new nationwide confinement in France, according to health ministry data.

A further 23,794 cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours, down from 33,172 on Thursday and compared to 60,486 last Friday.

The number of people going into hospital with the virus plunged to 24 from 737 on Thursday and the number of people going into intensive care dropped to just four from 96 on Thursday. Last week more than 100 per day were going into intensive care.

UK - Mass Covid tests trialled in Liverpool ‘cut transmission by 90% & can help us get back to normal ASAP

Pregnancy-style Covid tests could allow Brits to socialise again after trials in Liverpool show they can reduce transmission by 90 per cent.

The rapid turnaround tests will play a "major role" in returning life to normal, Oxford Uni scientists said today.

Testing shows the checks can effectively pick up more than three in four positive cases - the majority of which are currently being missed.

Experts say they are now looking at how the new technology, which can provide results in under 30 minutes, could be self-administered.

The kits, known as lateral flow tests, have been trialled across England to find out their effectiveness, including a city-wide pilot in Liverpool which was launched last week.

The tests involve a swab of the nose and throat, just like a PCR test.

It's then inserted into a tube of liquid for a short period of time.

Drops of that liquid are then added to a strip - similar to a pregnancy test - and about half an hour later a result is shown.

Public Health England today said that their extensive clinical evaluation has proven them to be accurate and reliable enough for community-use.

Sir John Bell, professor of medicine at Oxford University, said: “‘The data in this validation report demonstrates that these inexpensive, easy to use tests can play a major role in our fight against Covid-19.

“They identify those who are likely to spread the disease and when used systematically in mass testing could reduce transmissions by 90 per cent.“
