Since we went top on September 25th, second place has been held by:

Peterborough (3 days)
Bournemouth (4 days)
Peterborough (1 week)
Carlisle (1 week)
Peterborough (1 week)
Bournemouth (1 week)
Huddersfield (2 weeks)
Charlton (4 weeks)
Sheffield Wednesday (3 weeks)
Southampton (1 week)
Bournemouth (3 days)
Southampton (4 days)
Huddersfield (3 days)

That's 16 and a half weeks at the top now, and still counting

Despite the "blip" we had a few weeks ago, the Gus Bus is still the most consistent. What a great effort by the team.

Sheffield Wednesday have the second highest number of days in second spot then. They'll get nowhere near 2nd again this season.

........and to see if the 2nd place team had a relatively low points total at that stage Me thinks that whoever comes second this year may have an unusally low points total at the end of the season, unless one team suddenly goes on a good run. As for us, once B'muff is out of the way, the next 14 games look relatively easy..........

Really? I wouldn't write them off, they've made 6 signing already this window.
Whereas Albion, Southampton and Huddersfield made most of their big signings in the last transfer window and now have settled squads. And lets be honest, there is little to suggest that the current top 3 won't finish in the top 3, even if the final positioning is not yet settled.

Sheff Wed are shit, they've won ONE game more than they've lost so far. They'll improve I'm sure, but I can't see them finishing second. So yes, I'm writing them off.

including Gary Madine who was my tip for our new striker (shows what I know)

Nice stats Kalimantan. Just love anything that confirms how well we are doing

Nice one JimD, 6 points betters than Stains after 23 games each is pretty impressive, as is 11 points above 6th!

It really is in our own hands :albion1:

In 1971 it was a big chase for number two spot. I hope we can keep clear of the rat race and do not get injuries and sendings off that could lose us a few points.

for us to drop out of an automatic promotion place we need to drop at least 8 points (allowing for goal difference) to the third placed side over the second half of the season

big ask for the other contenders
