What is the point of this place?

Just been on its website and adverts for Il Divo, a hobby and craft fair and Disney Live!
I have watched The Flaming Lips, Nick Cave and Blur amongst others in the past but nowadays, bar the odd decent band ,its all about the x factor shit, Peter Andre and Pink Floyd cover bands.

Knock it down now!

Always problems getting a drink in that place during concerts.

When panda pops were still around I used to drink most of the coke and fill two bottles with Whisky and strap them inside my jeans or whatever I was wearing. Sometimes down my socks. That meant I did not have to go to crap bars, pay over the odds for weak beer or leave the front area of the stage at any point. Plus getting pissed took very little time. However, this was before the days of random full body searches, CCTV etc. Prob get escorted out if I tried it now.

It could certainly do with an upgrade. I mean, looking at it next to the Grand Hotel is like [insert funny metaphor]. But it is an important facility for conferences and exhibitions, so it would be unwise to tear it down completely.

I'm old enough to remember it opening, I'm sure I saw Status Quo there in 1977. used to head there often to see all sorts of bands - Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, The Police, Clapton, The Who and one memorable evening, Hawkwind along with only about 150 others punters huddled round the front of the stage.

It's tired and needs replacing rather than the tarting-up it recently received.

The Amex must have taken a fair bit of its (smaller) conference trade

It's always been a crap looking building. However it got planning permission I'll never know. However, I have seen some excellant concerts there. Wings, Queen, 10 cc, Stevie Wonder, Ian Drury, Madness, Editors, Keane, Kaiser Chiefs, Franz Ferdinand, wet wet wet, the Who, to name a few. I much prefer the Dome, both old and new versions.
