It's what he wants.

Either a harsh punishment and he can say they are out to get him or it's overturned on appeal and again, he can say they are out to get him.
That is my impression too - he constantly violated his gag order in that speech - he wants a prison sentence imo ( maybe for contempt even for 48hrs) because that would spark a real breakdown in civil order - he‘s clearly politicising his own criminal conduct.

He is taking on the establishment and gambling his own liberty on the basis he will go down in history as the most martyred leader in American history.

What a Morgan and ‘a suitable case for treatment‘ he is ..

Does anyone not know why people gob off about their judges in the UK?

It is called contempt. Anyone brainless to do during a press conference outside the court running the judge down would be man handled back in and ordered to think it over in a cell overnight.

He really needs 'sedating' for his own good.

He’s tempting the judge to jail him which would reinforce the ‘victim of a witch hunt’ mentality.

less likely is doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

If you were 99% certain to vote for Trump, but now Trump the convict only has you 95% certain, you are less likely, but you're still doing it.

On the other hand, any indication that his grip might be slipping is good. If he reaches a point that convinces some of the GOP bigwigs that it's time to cut bait, his support could collapse very quickly. 🤞

I love the weird world that Trump exists in. The charges were a witch hunt organised by Joe Biden but who is apparently too senile to be able to organise it. Additionally Trump was gagged in court despite being clearly told by the judge he could testify in his own defence....but chose not to in case he made a little mistake that could be labelled as perjury...however, if the jury had cleared him he would have praised them for seeing justice done.....what a warped cretin.

Would he have to have some sort of mental health assessment if the judge was seriously considering jail time?
Whilst he is on bail, he has to report to Probation who will prepare a sentencing report for the judge. That should include a medical report, physical and mental.
