I've received a few complaints over the past week about the standard of posting on NSC - particularly the language.
My stock reply is "it's the nature of the beast blah blah blah". But I've just been having a catch up and a perusal of a lot of threads and it does seem that a lot of people are unable to make more than 2 or 3 posts without using the c word.
It does make NSC look like a hangout for 12 year olds who are out of earshot of their parents and feel the need to swear at every opportunity.
I didn't impose a swear filter because I really thought that people would be able to deal with the ability to type uncensored, but this really does not seem to be the case right now. I don't have a problem with swearing - you hear it at football, you hear worse on a school playground etc., but the fact is there are people who do have issues with it. Unfortunately the widespread use of it now means that any innocent looking threads often turn into swear-athons, meaning readers are not able to judge on thread titles whether they are likely to be offended or not.
So - swear filter - shall I bring it back, or are people going to exercise a little more discipline, and respect others?
