'Sussex' mentioned on The Simpsons?

Sure I didn't imagine it, but in tonite's C4 episode they had a British character who submitted a bid to build the new Springfield Casino and promised to supply his own show girls for the casino: "genuine British gals from the streets of Sussex"

Sussex innit
I think it's because Sussex is one of the few British names they haven't used in America already so when they want to talk authentically about our nation, it often comes up

I was thinking that was the reason. Matt Groening is THE master at pulling out obscure references that just drop your jaw, not that I'm saying that Sussex is obscure, but in terms of your average US Simpsons viewer it is.

I once met the Mayor of Sussex County (Delaware, I think) in the Royal Oak at Hooks Way (t'other side of Chichester).

He was a decent bloke. Bought everyone in the pub a pint of beer.

Seems I was wrong then.

Is there no british place name they haven't nicked?

No. No Irish ones either, it seems

I live in possibly the only medium sized suburb they didn't nick the name of. Because the Candians did first..

I was going to say there's no way there can be a Blennerhasset (small hamlet in West Cumbria) in the US - but there's a Blennerhasset Mansion in West Virginia.

I'm giving up now.

The major difference being that in the Seaford's over there they don't have to replace the glass in their bus shelters or the flowers in their 'town in bloom' displays every other week due to restless local adolescents Doug.
:p
