Top stuff! You're absolutely right on Pigott - he came on first change. And yes Dexter opened the bowling with Barry Knight on a tour to Pakistan as did Tony Greig (with Geoff Arnold, later of Sussex) more than 10 years later.
So two down and Kirtley Snow and Thomson are also spot on.
The remaining candidate played twice against Pakistan - this time in England - in the early 80s. He opened the bowling in his first match taking 4 wickets but failed to impress in his second and never played for England again (at least not Test cricket). He later moved county.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I was about to say Eddie Hemmings, but I'm sure he played more than two tests and it would be extremely rare for a spinner to open the bowling, although it has happened in the past.

I used to meet a lot of cricketers as I was best friends with Paul Parker's son and seem to remember facing a bowler in the nets who had played for England, but can't remember his name. This is going to annoy me, but I shall refrain from looking at cricinfo.

Ah...Ian Greig

I hadn't realised he's opened the bowling though

Well done. Ian Greig was originally selected for his "ability to swing the new ball" and opened the bowling in his first test with Botham, Willis was brought on later! Strange because as far as I remember he seldom if ever opened the bowling for Sussex being a contemporary of Arnold, Imran, Le Roux and Pigott. By the time he went to Surrey I think he was better known for his batting.
