I think for this to work really well (ie people remembering words en masse for impromptu signing and because we want the game to kick off too), we need to pick 2 verses as our BHAFC edited version - much in the way that the video clip shows them signing a select verse.

Here's my suggestion

Now is the time for marching
Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me
And I'll sing you a song, as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea.

Far o'er the seas we wander
Wide through the world we roam,
Far from the kind hearts yonder
Far from our dear old home,
But never shall we forget my boys
And true we'll ever be
To the girls so kind that we left behind
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

I'm very keen on this and have sung the words (on my own/totally drowned out) at each home game so far...

Key would seem to be the club's involvement - words on the screens and maybe a singer on the mike occasionally - can anyone make this happen?

Would be absolutely magic and quickly a superb bit of tradition (the history is already there and the connection to those brave young men from our county is unique)

Please, people of influence, make it happen. I am very surprised it has`not been done already - does anyone think there is a good reason other than a lack of will/planning...? My own view is that the club were complacent in ignoring requests from fans to have an input to these details (why, oh why, were the words not even put on the screens when the bloke sang SBTS before the Tottenham game..???)

As so many have said this should be our "You'll Never Walk Alone"... the club are obviously interested as they have recently bowdlerised the musical version of SBTS played before the start to try and aid the singing of GOSBTS - but this is half-arsed compared to the whole crowd singing our anthem properly...

Prefer the actual second verse myself. I would say that the people that know the words now, like me, would prefer to keep them as they are.

I'd weep tears of salty goodness to hear us all singing it properly.

Yes, agree with this. I love the "far from our dear old home" verse but the "plough and sow and reap and mow" verse should be left in it's rightful place...

I think (and I'll check on Saturday!) that the latest bastardised/bowdlerised version, as used at the Blackpool and Sunderland games allows for...

Drums and fanfare...

Now is the time for marching
Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring my boys
And take your time from me
and I'll sing you a song as we march along
of Sussex by the Sea

Good old Sussex by the Sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
Oh we're going up and we'll win the Cup
For Sussex by the Sea

(All together now...)

Good old Sussex by the Sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
Oh we're going up and we'll win the Cup
For Sussex by the Sea

It shouldn't be beyond the vast majority of supporters to sing along with this, should it?

It would be great if we could do it without the words on the screen, or a vocal track over the PA... but both of these could be used if necessary to help get this going - and neither would be difficult to produce.

I don't think the soldiers in the video clip are singing the right words - it's hard to hear exactly what's being sung but it doesn't sound like "Now is the time for marching, now let your hearts be gay..."
They are the Lancashire Hussars.

When they get to the last verse, they confess:-

"You can tell them all that we know f*** all of Sussex By The Sea".

100% yes. Surprised the club hasn't done it already.

You're not wrong, the WHOLE song is a bit of an effort and would tail off, sounding a bit awful I imagine, but a condensed version like this sung start to finish would be IMMENSE

They've got to put it back to how it should be then. It is no good if we do not get to sing the 'you may tell them all, that we'll stand or fall' lines. Unless we replace the section before the (all together now) in your lyrics so it now reads:

Now is the time for marching
Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring my boys
And take your time from me
and I'll sing you a song as we march along

For Sussex by the Sea

Not sure if this fits though with the new version they are playing. I stand by what I said before though, they should play the original version so we can sing the first two verses as they have always been.
