Stick Robinson & Gatting up Front

Virgo I dont mind upfront IF
a) he plays upfront with someone
b) he learns to control a ball, hold it up and pass it to a team mate

Our problem is that we are playing with Virgo upfront and are just kicking it high at pace to him, all he does is flick it on. Problem with that is that there is no one to flick it to so the ball goes straight to the opposition

If he could learn that he doesnt have to head it everytime (defenders instinct) then he could do what Murray does when he plays upfront alone, and get the ball down, hold off the defender and pass it back or wide to the forward running midfielders

As for Jake, if I did have him upfront, it would be foe the last 20 minutes of a game, not from the start. Someone needs to instill some belief into that kid to make him run at defenders

Virgo would work alone upfront with an attack-minded five-man midfield. Then he could hold the ball up and knock the ball down for the oncoming attacking midfiewlders.

It's a million to one chance... but everyone knows mıllıon to one chances always come through.

I don't think with the run were on wether it's the time to start trialling out Gatting and Robinson. We need players we rely on. Or a new striker.

so why are they at this club then? its now or never for them IMO, if never then its a waste of wages.

Give Gatting and Robinson a go for a couple of games. If they still don't look good enough might be time to think about moving them on.

Wouldn't mind seeing Gargan have a go either.

dont matter
With the signing of 'attack minded' midfielder Johnson, it suggests to me that 4-5-1 is here to stay for the moment with Virgo up top alone and Johnson making runs to link up with him from midfield. Might work !

Gatting is the only striker we have other than Forster that can score the ugly goals in the 6 yard box. He may not be the fastest but he has a knack of being in the right place at the right time. He is not as crap as everyone makes out.

Robinson is not a striker, he is a clean striker of the ball, and has pace, but both is to rarely seen. He is better coming off the bench. If he could work on his crosses, he would make a decent right winger

AGREED. When he was played towards the end of the season 2 seasons ago he had a very good strike rate, but because he scored the ugly goals no one really remembers them. Hes strong and the opposite of Robinson and they built up a relationship through the youth team, give them a go :) can't be any worse than virgo's flick ons to the oppositions keeper...

So close to 140 appearances by Robinson isn't enough to know he isn't anywhere near as good as he's made out to be?

Well...

Against hartlepool we had 7 shots in total

6 off target

1 on

Jake got that

and he played 10 mins

so maybe he's better than most of the players trying to shoot in the full 90?

It was a shot on target but it hardly tested the keeper as it rolled along the floor to him

The problem is as it stands we have 5 strikers available to us at the moment.
Joe Gatting
Sam Gargan
Liam Upton
George Barker
Steve Brinkhurst

Of that lot Gatting is the most experience as he is the only one to start a first team fixture, and indeed the only one to score.

All the other strikers are injured or onloan, so we have to make do with wingers or centre backs upfront until the injuries clear up

That is one game. How many times has he been a total waste of time?

robinson ad gargan for me worth a try....however gargan as a young player would have to be protected from the boo boyz perhaps u could just lay of him for a couple of games and give him a go....

Gatting is, sadly, complete TOILET imo. Time to go, Joe. :bigwave:

Robinson's an, ahem, 'impact' sub at best these days; & Gargan too inexperienced to come into a struggling team & please an increasingly impatient crowd. We need somebody bringing in & now!! :(
