5,000 asked to report for duty in London.

Good grief. Is this really the answer?

I think the government are not inclined to send in the army due to whats happening in Syria and how it would be twisted around the world.

So special police it is.

Considering none of the cuts have come in yet, if they are already resorting to specials, then that tells its own story, this is huge, and the current (uncut) full time police force cannot deal with it. This would have been carnage regardless of what this government, or the last one had been doing. Let's hope that all the facebook/twitter/tv footage leads to these criminals being banged up, and and no pathetic hand wringing, get shot of them.

Overreaction to this. Specials have the same uniform and powers as regulars, most of you couldn't tell the difference and the thugs certainly won't be able to. It's perfectly sensible, they're just getting more police on duty. Why on earth wouldn't they use trained officers if they're available.

Don't confuse specials with PCSOs.

And Sussex will be fine, they have to cover the county first and then they'd send public order units to the Met (and bill them for it). They were already taking steps yesterday to ensure the Albion game tonight is covered
