this is garys wife...we went there last year and it was really good..loads to do there if u want to and not a cloud in the sky.i would try it if i was you.nice people to.gary tryed to sell me for a camel..going there this year if he cheers up and football goes well...just glad they won the last game...lol.hes a night mare when they lose.

I wouldn't sell you for a whole packet of Camels!
It's great for winter sun, we went a few years back, staying in The Hilton, (we got a very cheap deal).
Everest's photo is similar to our experience.
You walk out on the jetty, and jumping off is like a plunge pool, so all you have to do, is turn back to the hotel, and you have 20-40ft deep of coral reef to explore.
That was fantastic, but as said, there's not much else.
Naama Bay was ok, very new, nice and sanitised, there's a great 'chill out' bar sofa on the roof and all that, but not much else.
I'd say it would be a bit like spending a week at Eurodisney and saying you went to France for your holidays.

Just back from Eilat. Northern end of the Red Sea & about 600 miles north of Sinai. Been to both. Prefer the Israel end. Better hotels & more to do. Can go to Petra Jordan, Negev desert, as well as diving. Weather was fab & food is brilliant. Couldn't want to go anywhere else in the world for diving! More expensive than Sharm but I prefer 5 star quality at 4 star prices, rather than 3 star. Though there is the odd cheaper hotel at Eilat. Hope this helps!

As mentioned, nice place. Most of the locals are friendly, but very pushy if you head in to the old town or market areas. Taxis are cheap enough, in most cases you fix the price and haggle up front before travelling.
Snorkelling is amazing, most hotels do have pontoons that go out in to the deeper parts, so not the great hike that some have mentioned. I can't tell you how good the snorkelling is, imagine the best aquarium in the world and it's like dipping your head in that. Water is always warm too.
One tip, take plenty of Immodium. The food is good, but not brilliant in most palces, however i think they wash salad etc in local water so be prepared.
Also, when we've been the place has been overrun by Russians, Ukranians etc. who are even ruder than the Germans and don't have the same politeness that us English do, so brush up on your shoulder barging technique

june to sept is too hot up to 50 degrees, best times are december to may and october to december, been 13 times and am going again begin of may its a great place to just relax and do nothing, maritim jolie ville resort and casino has its own fantastic beach and you can snorkel on the many corals within walking distance from the shore, right next door to the hotel is Naama Bay with its many restaurants and bars, hard rock cafe, and also Camel dive cafe has great bars, italian and indian restaurants, many hotels do no have direct access to the beach but you have jetties to get into the sea, most of the hotels within walking distance of naama bay have their own beaches, have a great time and enjoy.
It has everything a european seaside resort has, bars, clubs, diving, windsurfing, parasailing, horseriding/quads in desert, snorkelling (Sonesta beach is great for that, turn left at beach, go round the corner to a more private beach and swim out 50 yards to a great drop off with shoals of 'big' fish,) go karting, excursions to St Katherine's/Shark reef etc, casinos - who ever said there was nothing to do didn't look!!!
One word of caution, do be careful if eating by hand - cleanliness (taking a small anti-bacterial handwash is a good idea) more bugs on the money than anywhere. Now to end April is great time to go - enjoy the Russian dancing girls at the Sonesta!!

We had one jab last year & then another jab this year which will cover us for a further 20 years. We haven't been to Sharm el Sheik, we did Cairo & it was f***ing grim so we won't be going back to Egypt.
The inlaws go every year though, they stay at the Sonesta and enjoy two weeks of doing nothing but lazing & grazing.
A tad out with that, Nuweiba is only 100 miles north of Sharm, Eilat is less than that north of Nuweiba.
Immodium is pretty much useless with most people. Dotrazide is the stuff to use, about 50p from the local chemists. We normally bring packets of the stuff back to send to a friend, she sends it to her husband serving in Afghanistan.
As for washing the salad, we always go to the Hilton in Nuweiba (about 100 miles up the Gulf of Aqaba from Sharm). They use bottled water for all preparation/cooking, ice etc. All depends on the hotel again.
Also Wiggy, if you're not going out of Sinai, don't bother with buying a visa. People may tell you you won't be able to go out the hotel without one, but that's a load of balls. The only place you'll need one in that area is Ras Mohammed national park.

....i forgot that the Breakfast buffet at Sonesta is class,they literally have everything (except baked beans) and the Egg man is a legend!

I'm going to Sultan Gardens in May. Seems a reasonable price and good reviews on Trip Adviser. Can anyone recommend whether to exchange money in this country or waiti to I get over there? I've heard from some the later is the better option

The hotels cash machine last easter was never working for cards, however was fine with uk notes which it changed to Egyption.
We took thirty pounds worth of one US$ bills with us which we got from our local thomson shop for tips in the restaurant/bars in the hotel
Just a note, alot of taxi drivers and shops prefer GBP or US$, so take some of them, but Egyptian Pounds we got in advance, no biggie if you cannot as there are cash points out there (I have a nationwide debit card that charges me about 0.5% for each transaction) so wasn't too worried

It's wonderful. Great beaches, easy trips to Cairo and Luxor available and they're very cheap if you avoid the organised ones and buy the plane tickets yourself.
But as others have mentioned, go very careful with the grub, even in a decent hotel. It's the only place I've ever had to be pushed around in a wheelchair as a result from being so weak for shitting and puking every 15-20 minutes for two days, even long after the offending foodstuff I'd eaten had long since hit the Gulf of Aqaba, no doubt to be solemnly inspected by some fat Russian scuba diver. I had to have an Egyptian man shove something hard into my bottom* in order to make it stop and if that wasn't dysentry then I don't know (or want to know) what is.
