We have been proping up the celtic ecominies for years, but without the celtic vote, a Westminster Parliament would always have an Irish Brigand majority.

A difficult arguement to choose either way.

I am a bit confused here. You mean without the " Socialist" Celts voting for a Labour Party, the Labour Party would never get elected in the England only parliament.

Frankly I am all for a single English state, though being ruled by Tories would p+++ me of no end. Hopefully the new state would elect by proportional representation so at least it would be run left of centre.

The two main parties in England will never bring in proportional representation. They have been discussing this issue for over thirty years, and still no progress.

We can not afford to let a new "ETON MAFFIA" under Cameron take control of England. All the good work of the last 10 years would immediately be undone and we would return to the dark days of Thatcherism.

The free state of Kemp Town

They have an awful lot of financial services companies which counts for a fair whack in their GDP.

Edinburgh is Europe's 5th largest financial centre and the Royal Bank of Scotland is the second largest bank in the whole of the continent.

I'm not Scottish or even a sympathiser particularly but it does strike me a lot of English are ignorant to their economic power

1. spelt 'mafia'.
2. Ah yes, a man goes to top English public school therefore makes him unsuitable for PM, but man goes to top Scottish public school makes him suitable.
3. What about the Scottish political mafia with their hugely disproportionate number of MPs compared to voters and voting on issues that don't affect them?
4. 'All the good work' - :shootself

An independent Scotland?

Would this mean an end to Scots as MP's at Westminster?

Would there be lottery money to rebuild Hadrian's Wall?

Would we no longer suffer hoots mon on New Year's Eve?

Let the miserable jocks have their independence.

JINGS! DO IT THE NOO!

Yes give their country back to them.

At least they truly are Britons, not like those dirty little Angles and Saxons, they are just germanic Euro trash.

It is at the moment, but new additions to reserves are generally small and are not replacing that being produced by a long way.

It'll run out sooner rather than later .. then they can have their miserable country back (just hope my missus doesn't read this!!)

As Al Murray Pub Landlord once said:

"The Scots are OK...they work for us now."

Personally I like the present arrangement. Some thoughts:

1. Scotland has global influence via the UK - independence would reduce this. In fact, every country in the UK would lose out - this is likely, in turn, to destabilise the Commonwealth.

2. Likely to be harder for Scots to get jobs and university places in England, and for the English in Scotland. How can this reduced freedom be a good thing?

All in all, those thinking independence is a good thing are wrong.

Any bet of the Scottish get it the Cornish will then be wanting independence. :lolol:

They did after all try to get recognition so they could go to the Commonwealth Games as a National Team.
