An irevealing article from an Ipswich newspaper. Very interesting considering Insiders comments re money not being a problem.

IPSWICH Town are refusing to sell Sam Parkin on the cheap and insist they are only interested in hard cash for the Blues striker.

Brighton have spoken to Ipswich Town about Parkin but have not yet put a bid in, although it is unlikely the League One club could match the Blues' valuation, believed to be in the region of £450,000.

The Seagulls, and other interested parties may consider a player plus cash bid but could be disappointed. Parkin went on as a late substitute in Town's 1-0 loss against Wolves at Molineux last night.

Blues chief executive Derek Bowden last night told the EADT: “There has been an inquiry from Brighton about Parkin but no offer. We are under no pressure to sell and would probably not be interested in a player swap but rather a cash deal if a club came up with the right offer.”

The EADT revealed on Monday how Coventry had made a bid for Parkin which Town turned down.

Micky Adams has subsequently said the deal is dead and have since signed Adam Virgo, a former Brighton player, from Celtic. The clubs have since been in contact again about Parkin and the Sky Blues could yet make a fresh approach, although they will clearly face some competition.

Brighton boss Mark McGhee declared his hand when he admitted: “Sam Parkin has been on our list for some time. He had an injury last season and didn't figure much.

"I had Sam on loan at Millwall before he went to Swindon so I have known him a long time. He could certainly do a job for us in this division but at the moment there is no certainty in it at all.” Even if Town were to accept an offer for Parkin it is not definite he would accept a move away and he is convinced Town fans have not seen the best of him yet.

Manager Jim Magilton is today expected to run the rule over trialist Michael Brittain who played for Newcastle United in four UEFA Cup matches and in FA Cup and a League Cup games.

Magilton described last night's performance as: “Just not good enough. It was not good enough for me and it should not be good enough for the players who have the honour of wearing that shirt.”

I assume they mean Martin Brittain from that.

Sounds like a good deal to me, they get Brittain, and we can have Parkin. Lovely jubbly.

No chance. I cannot see this happening in a million years.

Please.

Immediate response from Insider re money and player swap possibilities. "lets all wait and see what happens" Are things occurring on this matter as we speak?

I would guess the thing that is occuring on this matter is that Dick Knight is pushing the boat out to get an offer accepted by ipswich which will allow us to speak to the player who will just laugh in our faces and say no thanks I'll stay here thank you very much.

Perhaps a kind benefactor is putting up the cash. Parkin is the most exciting name to appear on the list of 'most wanted' strikers to date. Perhaps his relationship with McGhee might tempt him to the club. Leon and he did not famously get on so thats no longer a problem.

they would have to be mad to pay that for a player with 6 goals in the championship last season, who cant get in the team this year

The only *slight* glimmer in this is if Ipswich were interested in a CKR plus cash deal. No WAY can we meet their valuation without CKR as a makeweight, and I can't see them wanting sulkydraws anyway, being as he hardly set the division alight last year.

And even IF the two clubs came to an agreement, I'd be amazed to see Parkin prepared to drop back down to the third division at this stage of his career.

Non-starter surely.

Agree totally, the only thing is he just might have enough pride in his ability to want to play first team football, instead of churning it out in Ipswich's stiffs each week.

Going out to another club might be his chance to get his name in the spotlight again.

I just feel that other clubs with more money or better facilities will jump in once they hear a player of Parkin's ability is available.

Swansea? They seem to have adopted a policy of signing all the strikers around, if only to stop other teams having them (Fallon?).

agreed Easy. Surely there will be Championship clubs interested and hes only mid twenties i believe.

i really cant see this happening, of all the strikers we have been linked with only Burgess i think is actually within our budget and would be possibly prepared to drop to league 1.

I hope im wrong though, Parkin is a class act.

Could be worth testing the waters witgh Dichio again with the window soon to shut, is he geting a game ?

Could be. At least Knight can say "well, we agreed on the price blah blah", before going on to blame the stadium situation etc, a la Sidwell.

If Parkin WERE to agree a move here, Knight would shit himself. :jester:

Hope we don't have to give up Jakey or Gatting as part of the valuation, I really think 450 is a bit too much.
