What are they actually going to do with him now?

I take it he will be tried in America-but what punishment is he likely to get?

Probably see out his life on some island that will cost us taxpayers a fortune.

He could always recoup some of the cost with grecian 2000 adverts !

Disagree - he should be tried in an international court for crimes against humanity.

Just like Milosevic and various others.

if your talking about 'paying for his crimes' surely he should also be tried in kuwait (for invading) and israel (firing missiles at them) as well??

Milosevic was imprisoned for life?

I see they have started Saddam Hussein's punishment by shaving off his beard.

Maybe they could cut his toenails really really short tomorrow.

Then on Tuesday they could die his hair green and make him look really silly.

Yes. An international court. Not an American one.

Those are the types of crimes he should face punishment for and for totally ignoring human rights.

I suspect he may end up with some form of sentance like the guy who was held in a solitary prison in Germany on his own.

For the sake of humanity he must be punished for these dreadful crimes against fellow countrymen - no-one deserves that type of treatment ever.

How do they punish him though?

A murderer would get a life sentence, a mass murderer would get a life(meaning life) sentence.

How do you find an appropriate sentence for what he did?

I'm sure life in a Irag/US prison will be much more fun than living down the hole he was found in.

A very fair comment and whatever the punishment it does not fit the crime.

Somehow maybe George Bush Senior should have had him interned after the first Gulf War - would have been far cheaper.

There is a bigger issue though that both US and UK backed him for a while so you could almost say neither have any right to decide a punishment.

I understand the US do not back an International Court ?

The death penalty? If it was good enough for Ceausescu it's good enough for Hussein. Hold the trial in the Netherlands like the Lockerbie bomber al-Megrahi.

The star witness for the defence could be Bin Laden, live via satellite from his cave in Tora Bora...

The Romanian death sentance was a agreed with no court action.

I wouldn't advocate that on anyone.

but do you agree that the death penalty in Hussein's case, after a proper trial, would be the most desirable action?

People have forgotten that if it wasn't for the perceived danger from the WMD we wouldn't have invaded in the first place.

Where are those WMD?
