Anybody comparing German fascists with socialists are being, at best, deceitful, and clearly borderline fascists themselves.

Would that include Fredrick Hayek? An Austrian jew and Nobel winner who was a member of the vienna circle and helped set up the underground before fleeing to England himself.

In his book The road to serfdom he said that the difference between the Nazis and English Socialists was that the Germans had just progressed further. It was something that Orwell referenced many a time, ie Ingsoc in 1984.

Maybe they are both decietful and borderline facists?

Im still happy to stick with the historical and world view of what a socialist is and what a fascist is thanks.
Over the last year or so, the British right wing have been calling anybody who disagrees with them as fascists, basically, because they realise
that the British people consider fascists scum.
Muddying the issue with slight changes, and views, wont distract me from being able to spot the difference between a fascist and a socialist, and I dont doubt most of the country will be the same.

If people were to say, reds, or commies...people would understand...what is the reason behind calling socialists 'fascists' exactly? Other than to decieve?

Dogs and Bullies (collective term: Arseholes). Most likely the sellers are idealists not living in the real world.

Of course the point in calling the SWP 'red fascists' was to highlight there extreme, authoritarian, anti-democratic brand of (leftist) politics - hardly a deception!!

And the phrase is hardly new - I first heard it 30 years ago!!!

And did you hear it from a Fascist? Theres names of more extreme elements of the left you could have used, but for some reason, you are choosing Fascist.. I find it strange, thats all, and I like I say..if you look around the Fascist web pages you will soon see why im asking about it. BNP, NF, EDL all call anybody who oppose them as fascists.

Interesting, was it from the National Front or British Movement ?

You are missing or dodging the point. Yes they are two distinct ideologies but its the similarities being debated here along the liberal/authoritarian spectrum not the left/right one.

Maybe they are doing liberal socialists a favour by marking out the difference. You may not like it well thats tough, people who protest about other people protesting are hardly in the Voltaire camp of defending other peoples views even if they disagree with them. i think it may well stick as its a group thats been crying out for a label for a long time.

Can you not see any irony in the term "Smash fascism"?

Im against extremism in any form, like Ive said before, look at any fascist web page, and anybody, not the extreme left, anybody who opposes them are described fascists.. a case of two extremes tarnishing each over maybe.. but my belief is that the right are deliberately clouding the point as they realise, the vast majority of the country reviles fascism and hope to use it in their propaganda.
