I remember some moron lobbing bananas at a Doncaster player during The Goldstone's last game - who the hell was that?

At Orient, also in '97, some Brighton fan near me was going apoplectic giving monkey chants to one of their players - to my utter shame I didn't say anything, just totally embaressed as i had a girlfriend with me.

Does anyone have any stories when you stopped it happening, or at least confronted one of these idiots?

I got called a Paddy **** by a Bristol fan at Cardiff.... Nothing from any of the Brighton fans despite the fact that people claiming to represent the Irish people bombed Brighton....

I think we're relatively well behaved as fans go.

Every London game I've been to in the last 10 years (excluding Palace Oct 2001 bizarrely) I've heard racist chants, comments, etc, whether it be aimed towards opposition players, or in the case of the black ref we had last year when we lost 0-4 (again!) at Brentford :nono:

I remember the banana throwing at the Doncaster game (Darren Moore was the player, the current West Brom captain). We were in the North Stand so were limited to merely voicing our disgust from a distance. Seem to remember most of the ground being rather unimpressed as it happens.

Other than that no major instances stick out, which can only be a good thing.

MYOB, I think that's terrible. Paddy TOSSER maybe, but '****' is a bit strong. ;)

Ive heard racist comments at many of the bigger Albion away games, personally I think we should be docked points and be made to play behind closed doors. Twice! :shootself

except for odd examples of morons we never have had a great racism problem at brighton.even at the height of n f recruitment in the 70's(they used to have a stall outside the north west corner/next to the solcialist workers oddly enough) brighton people have allways been(if even only overtly)tolerant of all races colours and sexuallities.

What does paddy actually mean? I've honestly got no idea why it would be regarded as racist.

Look at my location. Remember that my nationality is the same country. Figure out what the one word that NSC blocks that the stars blocks

Thats why its racist.

Sorry, that doesn't help. I know you're from Ireland and I realise that it's a derogatory word towards Irish people but I don't know why. If you're saying that it means kunt (which is the only word I know that NSC blocks) then thats not racist. It's just an insult.

Its racist as he was insulting me solely based on my nationality. Thats one of the definitions of racism last time I read the Diversity Handbook from school....

Would be akin to calling some in Ireland an English ****. It is racism, under most definitions. Including the Football Leagues, so hopefully the copper dragging him out of the train station made sure to inform them :lolol:

I'm not Irish my dad is.

It isn't derogatory towards Irish people at all. Paddy c**t is.

I was talking to MYOB. YOu managed to post while I was typing :). I still wouldn't regard it as racist. Technically maybe but if someone called me an English **** I wouldn't be particularly offended.

Confronted 3 or 4 idiots at QPR a couple of seasons ago on Boxing Day. They were giving Danny Shittu the monkey chants.
f***ing clowns.

At Luton last season.

One thing I will say for most Albion supporters is that racist shouting is almost always challenged by our own supporters.

But the problem is not just chanting. Given that there are now very many black players in English football, you have to ask where the black supporters are and why there are relatively few black faces in the crowds.

There was an anti-Turkish chant towards Kemi Izzet at Colchester in 2002, but it was shouted down and I believe the culprits received some sort of beating.

Also shouts against black players at Brentford last year and quieter ones against Gillingham this year.

My reservations about doing anything are usually that one can't be sure how stewards at away games will respond (Crewe earlier in the season being a good example).

The Gaelic (or Irish) for Patrick is Padraig. So the nickname for Patrick is Paddy.

It's not racist, it's like calling the Scots Jocks etc.

so where does jock come from eh? i don't know any scots called Jock?
