Fourth bottom have 40 points. They won't have this season. Relegated Hull got 9 wins. Fulham will need to win more in their final 13 games than they did in their first 25 to get there. Man City will likely have run away with the league by game week 32 and every other side except for Man U, Leicester, Villa and Leeds are either getting lucky or under achieving.

Beyond that the quality of some games is utter dogshit. Early on Leeds 4 Fulham 3 may have been entertaining for the neutral but it contained some of the worst defending I've ever seen in an elite game. Clearly Parker agreed and changed half the squad with the result that they now specialise in low scoring draws. Fulham / Sheff U last night was Championship standard. The West Brom game was League 1.

Not saying its the best season ever but a lot of those things you mention really doesnt indicate that a league is "good" or "bad" - Hull being able to get 9 wins while Fulham wont could, if you turn the argument around, be evidence that the league is stronger now and a poor team cant get as many points as Hull could.

As for games seemingly being Championship / L1 standard, its something that happens every year. I dont remember the game but I would guess very few watched eg Middlesbrough - Burnley 0-0 and thought "oh what a fantastic Premier League game".

I just meant in the overall context of the season. The wins vs. Spurs and Liverpool were great but 6 points from Burnley and Fulham would have been of greater value in terms of securing our PL status. But happy to take the points wherever they come from obvs

Not sure really - it's dependent on what we also would have done v Spurs & Liverpool.

So, for instance, beaten Burnley & Fulham, and lost to Spurs & Liverpool - 'as we should' (if you see what I mean) - we have six points against Burnley/Fulham who would have got nothing from our fixtures. So +6 over both of them.

As it was, neither of them beat us - so we got 8 points out of the four fixtures, with Burnley & Fulham getting one each. So, +7 over both of them - we are a point better off the way it panned out.

The only way it would have been of 'greater value' in securing out PL future is if we have beaten Burnley & Fulham, and picked up two points v Spurs & Liverpool.

If we had lost to either Burnley or Fulham, it would have been different - but we didn't.

A little perspective. Fourth bottom may have survived with 40 points but they only needed 35 in reality. But agreed, there have been some poor games this year, but maybe there are always this many bad games but because we are all sat at home and able to watch them all we are just noticing them more.

Fair enough point. There are some poor games and even some pretty poor moments in good games (did anyone else notice a rash of foul throws a while ago for example) but maybe it always happens. Locked down and bored we either watch much of many games or give up altogether.

I think I'm fairly confident in saying, nonetheless, that this season is exposing the weakness in many SQUADS. Newcastle without ASM aren't much. Palace really struggle without the SEGW. Southampton's problems all down to injury and suspension. Liverpool nothing without their starting centre backs.

And I'm definitely confident that no one ever will be saying that the 2020/21 West Brom and Sheffield Utd teams are too good to go down, nor will anyone miss them.

Nothing to disagree with their at all. One of the things this season has shown is actually how good our squad is. No lamptey, lallana, Welbeck or Webster for large amounts of time but the improvement in terms of playing style , if not always results, seems to be a continuous thing.

I don't get why people say VAR stops you from celebrating a goal. Jesse Lingard just celebrated twice!

As this game has Alan Smith covering it does that guarantee that I won't have to listen to the **** again today?

Can you imagine the size and ferocity of the protests the West Ham faithful would be leveling at their:-

- Owners.
- Board.
- Manager.
- Stadium.

When given the platform of 4th in the table, in a Champions League spot...

... no me neither.
