Poyet signs new contract
6:00am Friday 23rd July 2010

Albion boss Gus Poyet has ended doubts about his future by signing a new four-year contract.

The former Chelsea star and his assistant Mauricio Taricco have agreed deals tying them to the club until the summer of 2014.

Poyet has been linked with other jobs virtually since the day the Seagulls handed him his first managerial post last November.

His contract was due to expire at the end of next season, Albion’s first at Falmer.

Albion chairman Tony Bloom said: "Gus and Mauricio have earned their new long-term deals.

"They have proven themselves in the time they have been here and endeared themselves to the club's supporters.

"When we appointed Gus, we believed he would prove himself to be one of the best up-and-coming managers, and we are pleased he has already shown that, so naturally we are delighted to have agreed a new deal with him.

"Mauricio's new deal reflects Gus's in terms of length. They arrived together, and are a managerial duo.

"They work extremely well together and make an extremely good managerial team, so it was natural for both contracts to be done at the same time."

Good news but in reality contracts mean nothing in football.

Just read that, fantastic news. As much as the doomsayers will remind us a contract is nothing more than a piece of paper in football nowadays this is surely something to be really very happy about.

Of course it is good news, just as good news as when Coppel signed one

It wasn't Coppell's first managerial role and he left to go to a club that was about a year ahead of where Brighton is now.

Poyet is at a club that is goings places. We know it. He knows it.

Just a very large compensation fee for the club

or a very large bill if they're sacked.

Good news though. Was never in doubt, was it?

Great news and congratulations to the stealth chairman once again, it's so refreshing to have TB doing his job without shouting it from the tree tops all the time.
