Postcard campaign

The Falmer For All team is launching a series of postcards at the Rotherham United game on Saturday, 3rd February, as the first of a series of initiatives to make the Secretary of State aware of the huge support for the stadium proposals at Falmer.

The cards have been superbly designed by Bill Swallow with great help from John Cowen, Roz South and other members of the FFA team. There are a number of different themes: natural beauty (or lack thereof), education, transportation, “nimbyism”, etc, all with excellent illustrations and factual, to-the-point text. The printing is being funded by the Supporters' Club.

The cards are addressed to Ruth Kelly, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, at the House of Commons.

Supporters will be able to obtain these postcards at the Rotherham United, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City home games during February.

Get them from Gully’s Girls outside the stadium, from programme booths, from Supporters’ Club/Falmer For All volunteers inside the ground, and from Supporters’ Club tables.

At the Rotherham game, at least, they will be handed out in plastic packs of five cards with an instruction label. Please come back for more at the Forest and Bristol City games - but bring a waterproof bag with you in case of rain!

Please, please, please, do seek out these postcards and do fill them in. You cannot overestimate the importance of this initiative.

It would be much easier for all concerned if you take them away with you and fill them in at home, rather than doing so at the ground.

Once completed with your name, address and signature, you can either stick a stamp on and post them yourself; return them to the Club Shop; or bring them back to the next home game, to the Supporters’ Club tables in the South or North Stands, and we will post them for you.

Please get your relatives, friends, neighbours and work colleagues to complete the cards as well. Ask for more cards if you can get them completed. And remember, we will be having the cards available for the three matches throughout February.

Those supporters who are unable to get to Withdean but still wish to play their part can do so by contacting me. PM me with your name, address and the number of cards you need - minimum five please - and I will send off cards to you as soon as I can. You can either then stick on stamps and post the cards yourself, or post them back to me unstamped and we will do the rest.

Martin Perry said about the postcards and other plans:

“These are initiatives that the supporters have come up with to demonstrate the overwhelming public support there is for our new stadium at Falmer.

“It is vital – just as we did with John Prescott – that we leave Ruth Kelly in no doubt about the importance of this stadium to the people of Brighton & Hove and Sussex.

“We as a club are doing everything we can to do that and I am sure our supporters will do exactly the same.”

Once again, I cannot overemphasise the importance of these postcards. Please do your utmost to get as many people as you can to complete them.

Note that there will also be buckets at the Supporters’ Club tables for any contributions to postage!

Thank you everyone. Please do take part in this initiative and help us get to the stadium we so richly deserve and for which there is only one location - Falmer!

Keep bouncing! This is the most important single thing any real fan can do for Falmer!! Along with any real fans' friends, relatives and colleagues.

The Rotherham fans have promised they'll be signing up on our special away fans' postcards to Ruth Kelly this afternoon. So, respect to them for that.

So please.... get down to Withdean, sign up and help us get Falmer!!

Am I a defeatist but am I the only person who thinks that Ruth Kelly will file these cards as they arrive in a big black sack.

Do we honestly believe that she will be influenced by these cards. Will it affect her decision? Somebody give me an answer because I think that she will make a decision based on representations of fact rather than postcards or gimmicks.

And if nobody bothers will she base her decision on the constant pack of lies and bullshit coming out of LDC which might influence her?

She needs to see how much we all want this stadium... if you can't be bothered then don't send them-thankfully there will be plenty of people willing to make a small effort.

They will be delivered with as much fanfare as possible.

No, she probably won't even see them, but there will be plenty of news coverage about the fact that xx,000 postcards reminding her how important Falmer Stadium is going to be are going to be delivered to her government department's front door.

Politicians, especially from this spin-obsessed government, don't ignore things like that.

I do not think that anybody in the country could say that they do not realise how many fans want the stadium. It is not a case of not being bothered because I have given my assistance in every aspect but cannot get excited about this idea.

I do however agree with TLO about the publicity that it will receive and also may I add, how this shower of a government like to be seen to be popular.

May I also say that if it wasn't for 'this shower of a government' we'd have had a straight forward NO years ago. Remind yourself again which party was the only one in favour of our return to Brighton? Struggling with that one? Which party colluded with the LibDems behind closed doors? And which party's Sussex MPs ALL refused to support the stadium bid? Still struggling?

Great quality very impressed.

However, did anyone notice the CHELSEA badge in plain view on the kids at school one?
