The worst flashpoint is the station obviously but a close second is the bottom of the steps to the coaches right outside the away end !
MADNESS !!
Easy chances for missiles to rain up or down and no proper segregation was dreadful last season !
Why would you put the steps to the coach park there where home and away fans are forced to stop and gather congregate together.
Wasn't this all part of the hippy type plan to make it all love n peace man around the stadium ?
There will be a real blood bath in that area one day.

It's too late for this but I did wonder if the police had thought about copying what's happening for Huddersfield/Hull ...then maybe they could have been kept behind for say 20/30 mins ...how did the majority travel last time I can't remember

If I remember right Hulls ground is designed to keep the maximum distance between home and away fans at all times, when entering and leaving same as Millwall.

That seems to be a good reason to hold them back for 30 mins....then those wanting to go to the station are shepherded down by the police

Clearly the safe solution is to keep home fans in for a while while the away fans are marched onto coaches / P&R buses, or a waiting direct train to croydon via lewes.

Then let out home fans.

Any palace fans who this doesn't suit can be kept behind and put on a train to brighton later.

I guess that would be the simplest solution (I could watch out goals again on the concourse)...I know I will avoiding my normal route until the majority hav left

I agree can all be done in 20 minutes or so, much easier than moving 25,000 people. Only problem is people who choose to leave early when do 'lock the doors'.

Just been posted on Twitter that Sussex Police are asking for questions/views on policing the game.

Brighton and Hove Albion and Sussex Police podcast

I saw this on Twitter, I find it a bit odd.

Surely the police are the experts here and simply take their experiences from the last clash and look to put right the things that went wrong?

I'd rather they got on planning the job, they are paid professionals, what is a consultation with fans going to achieve exactly?

Keep them in the ground for 30 minutes. It's so simple, but they won't.

It obvious they have to be kept in for half hour after the game, but they won't be.

Agree completely.

It's also obvious that herding them in Spoons in West Street & then escorting them up Queens Road might not be the smartest plan. Mind you, a good oppurtunity for the police to get a few faces on CCTV, so from their point it was a success.

I didn't see anything too bad last time, apart from the game!

The key is high visibility policing at potential flash points, for those who want a safe day just go where most people are going because that's where the most police will be.

The real problem with these games is the small minority trying to get it on away from these areas, the fact that the Palace hoolies went to Seaford last time say's it all - they aren't really up for it despite all the chest pounding.

Keep them in until the trains have cleared.

The absolutely naive (football fans can all be treated like grown ups now, and its a family day out these days) approach, of Sept 2011, can never be allowed to reoccur.

If anyone gets hurt with a repeat of that dumb plan, the Police in charge will be indirectly responsible.

I have absolutely no issue with being kept back after the game, I usually stay for a few jars anyway, and it's St Paddys day - why not make it a PAAAAARRRTEH!!!!

In fact I would go so far as to say I would be pissed off mightily if we get kicked out of our own ground so that the inbreds can spend an extra half hour/hour tearing the away end concourses to bits. Kick the nigels out, and let us have a beer

The dull part of the south coast
Just a thought here - but if the majority of Palace fans are coming down by train, would it be possible to make them alight at Preston Park and put them on buses (parked in London Road a la Withdean) then shift them up to the Amex and return them the same way?

At least that would alleviate the flash points that occurred at Brighton and Falmer stations last season and keep them away from the centre of town.

A kind of semi-bubble if you get my drift.

Simple isnt it? Lock in 27,000 home fans for half an hour/fifteen mins whilst they clear away fans and we can just hang inside and drink?

Have a train waiting for them at falmer. Keep us in the ground for half hour for more beers whilst they clear. Simples

I think that would be dangerous. The concourses do not have enough room for people to be locked in and I believe most people would try to get away from the seats given that so many want to rush away anyway.
